艾琳終於了了她爸爸的心願跟簡結婚了.她家外交名門跟家世曾顯嚇的簡,門當戶對,人人稱羨.

她從少在外國長大, 爸爸退休後舉家遷到邁亞米, 她申請到東部名理工學院,一人北上,在學校裏學天文物理,遇到了德國來的棕髮藍眼的布克,兩人一見鍾情.

而艾琳外交官的爸爸早看上了他大學同學的獨子,簡.

簡熱愛水族,年紀輕輕已是海洋生物博士,在邁亞米有巨大家產,第一次遇見艾琳,就墜入情網,馬上追到北方.

她愛天上數不清的星星, 但拗不過她親愛的爸爸,終於回到南方,同意跟簡結婚.

那場盛大的南方婚禮給邁亞米的僑胞大開了眼界.

不過艾琳堅持婚禮後要到大峽谷渡蜜月.那附近有她和布克同事過的羅威爾天文台.

在大峽谷,艾琳跟簡選了一家小旅館,然後去走明亮天使小道.天氣突然變壞,大風大雨,爬到半夜才上來.到她們住的小旅館,櫃台沒人,燈光暗淡.

她看見櫃檯旁邊有留言板,上面 一大堆留言.

有一行字很模糊,但很工整, 有點像布克的字, ... 試與妳會合. B....

她心裏不覺一跳,但是她跟簡實在太累了.

第二天,仍是狂風暴雨. 等雨一停,艾琳與簡提早結束蜜月旅遊,回到邁亞米.

家裏有一個電報,是從亞利松那羅威爾天文台轉來的德國布克家發的.

布克回歐洲渡假,在阿爾卑斯山滑雪葬身.

日子正是艾琳與簡走明亮天使走道那天.

Bright Angel Trail  

Eileen finally obeyed her father and married Jon, the son of an old friend of his. It was a couple made in heaven and the talk of the Chinese Community.

She grew up in foreign countries because of her father's diplomatic career. After retirement, her father chose Miami to settle down. Eileen got a scholarship from a famous  Institute of Science up north and earned a Ph D in astrophysics.

She met Burke at the college and they both held summer jobs at the Lowell Observatory in Arizona. Under the bight starry sky they fell in love.

Her father had long hoped she would marry Jon, the sole heir of his old friend who had become a successful entrepreneur in the new world.

Jon loved water and had earned a PhD in Marine Biology at a young age. He fell in love with Eileen at a family party in Miami at first sight and pursued her north.

She loved the stars in the sky but she couldn't disobey her father whom she loved too much and finally said good bye to Burke and married Jon.

Eileen insisted that they went to the Grand Canyon for their honeymoon. She and Burke went there often while they worked in Arizona.

In Grand Canyon she chose a small hotel in which to stay. She and Jon hiked down the Bright Angel Trail.

There was a sudden change of weather. The fierce storm did not allow them back to the hotel until midnight.

There were random notes left on  the blackboard near the front desk when they returned.

One caught her attention, "Trying to meet...B..." the chalk was smeared. She could only figure out the first letter B of the signature. It slanted forward. Burke used to do it.

Her heart jumped but she and Jon were dead tired and went directly to their room.

They couldn't leave the hotel the second day because of the bad weather and stayed. When they finally got back to Miami, there was a telegram for Eileen. It was from Burke's family in Germany.

Burke had gone home  to Germany for vacation and went skiing alone There was an avalanche. They hadn't found his body yet.

The day it happened was the same day that Eileen and Jon went down the Bright Angel Trail.

El Sendero del Ángel Brillante

Eileen finalmente obedeció a su padre y se casó con Jon, el hijo de un viejo amigo suyo. Era una pareja hecha en el chisme de la comunidad china.

Ella creció en países extranjeros debido a la carrera diplomática de su padre. Después de la jubilación, su padre eligió Miami para asentarse. Eileen obtuvo una beca de un famoso Instituto de Ciencias en el norte y obtuvo una Ph D de astrofísica.

Conoció a Burke en la universidad y ambos realizaron trabajos de verano en el Observatorio Lowell en Arizona. Bajo el estrellado cielo estrellado se enamoraron.

Sue padre había esperado por mucho tiempo que se casaría con Jon, el único heredero de su viejo amigo que se había convertido en un emprendedor exitoso en el nuevo mundo.

A Jon le encantaba el agua y había obtenido un doctorado en biología marina a una edad temprana. Se enamoró de Eileen en una fiesta familiar en Miami a primera vista y la persiguió hacia el norte.

Ella amaba a las estrellas en el cielo, pero no podía desobedecer a su padre, a quien tanto amaba, y finalmente le dijo adios a Burke y se casó con Jon.

Eileen insistió en que fueron al Gran Cañón para la luna de miel. Ella y Burke fueron allí a menudo mientras trabajaban en Arizona.

En el Gran Cañón elle eligió un pequeño hotel para quedarse. Ella y Jon caminaron por el Sendero del Ángel Brillante.

Hubo un repentino cambio de clima. La feroz tormenta no les permitió regresar al hotel hasta la medianoche.

Había notas al azar que ha dejado en la pizarra cerca de la recepción cuando regresó.

Uno llamó su atención, "tratando de encontrar ... B ..." la tiza fue manchada. Sólo pudo averiguar la primera letra B de la firma. Se inclinó hacia adelante. Burke solía hacerlo.

Su corazón saltó, pero ella y Jon estaban muertos de cansancio y se dirigieron directamente a su habitación.

No podían dejar el hotel el segundo día debido al mal tiempo y se quedaban. Cuando finalmente regresaron a Miami, hubo un telegrama para Eileen. Era de la familia de Burke en Alemania.

Burke se había ido a casa en Alemania de vacaciones y se fue a esquiar solo. Hubo una avalancha. Aún no habían encontrado su cuerpo.

El día que sucedió fue el mismo día que Eileen y Jon bajaron por el Sendero del Ángel Brillante.
