Polyphonic Text
After the heat and the thunderstorm, insects and birds
each sang with all their strength.
Different kinds of notes drifted through the air.
Multiple narratives unfolded simultaneously, at times colliding with one another.
A polyphonic text filled with many voices; in a beer hall,
I once experienced it myself. Every utterance
was enclosed within its own frame, forming its own context,
like frogs clamoring in a pond, impossible to enter,
nor was there any need for deliberate interpretation by others.
The sounds of insects and the songs of birds—their signifiers
are explicit,
while their signifieds are left for each listener to interpret.
There is no need for an omniscient narrator.
I recall the difficult birth of a poem.
So many images, like petals, floated through my mind.
I reached out with the hand of inspiration to scoop up a few,
yet many more images slipped away through my fingers.
I carefully arranged and combined them, within a fictional plot,
finding for each of them its own fixed place.
Of course, there are many other possibilities, just like a detective story:
at the scene of a murder, a few clues are always left behind.
A poem gradually takes shape in the course of fermentation.
All kinds of associations intertwine with one another,
weaving together a Polyphonic Text.
The mixed chorus of insects and birds.
Images are so much like photographs.
There are many different ways to arrange them.
As the photographs are rearranged, the story
will appear in different forms.
Polyphonic Text satisfies
each readers own curiosity.
Texte polyphonique
Nul besoin dun narrateur omniscient.
Toutes sortes dassociations sentrecroisent,
