America used to have an information agency in Taiwan which was located just next door to the middle school I had been attending. It was a stomping ground for some of the students to repair to, and to some extent, I was among one of them. There were US magazines, periodicals(e.g. "今日世界') and glossies like "Seventeen"(the one which was attractive to teenagers, especially boys) for the public. Actually, the main purpose of the agency was to propagate US' viewpoints and so-called "universal value", a covert method of intangible brainwashing and latent cultural invasion which had been unconsciously to most of the people in Taiwan, and to those of American allies' as well. After three years' "inculcation"(or six years' like me), those students went to college, and later on some of them went to America for advanced study and finally settled down there as to realize their "American dreams". They were elites from Taiwan and the majority of them would turn out to be among upper class in their new country where they could acquire a life of well-being that they took it for granted. In fact, the better, wealthier life they were enjoying had based on America's international pillage by means of its military-supported financial robbing and fleecing out of other countries. But those "elites" would not think so because they had long been brainwashed. In their minds, what America said would have never been wrong. Now the propoganda, the very source of brainwashing, continues, and it won't never end. Recently, I'd read some comments in response to a blogger, and I found that America now even control the public opinion of Taiwan, espeically on the issue of Taiwan's future. No wonder most of Taiwan's media cater to remaining status quo between the strait(forever), which would best meet America national interest. Now I know why did that DPP presidential candidate Ms. Cai have nothing else to say about cross-strait relationship but "remaining status quo". Dear islanders, if you want independence, you have to think independently! |
