山一程，水一程，Over the mountains, across the streams.
身向榆關那畔行，We were heading for the distant Yu Pass.
夜深千帳燈。At night, thousands of camps were lit by lamps.
風一更，雪一更，First, wind blew; then, snowflakes drifted.
聒碎鄉心夢不成，The night was too blustery to make us sleep.
故園無此聲。Back home, there would have been no such noises.
