In ancient Chinese culture, sixteen years old is the age where people see their children as an adult. Though this is not the standard we see today, this tradition was still kept. Twelve days cycling around Taiwan is an outstanding achievement, and we who participate in this, grew up.
Amongst our peers, some are mature, and some are ready to accept the hat on their head; some doesn’t want to face the truth that they are growing up, and want to stay in their Neverland. However, facing reality, we can only stay in the Temple of Confucius and undergo the ceremony of turning sixteen. This is not an event we are forced to experience, but one we must experience.
The twelve days of cycling is a superb chance to train ourselves, to prepare ourselves open up our mind in facing the unavoidable event in our lives, growing up. Growing up is not awful, nor is it scary. Although, what many isn’t used to is changing from a teenager to an adult. I hope this cycling trip helps each of Kang Chiao tenth graders, enhancing one’s abilities, and transform to an adult mentally and physically, not just letting the hat being placed on your head for nothing.
