Definition1: to suddenly break something with a short loud noise , or to be broken in this way

Example: When the rope snapped , Davis fell into water.

Definition2: to quickly move something such as a light switch so that it make a short sound ,or be moved quickly in this way

Example: She quickly snapped her handbag shut.

Definition: to move somewhere making a series loud short noise

Example: He came clattering down the stairs.

 

l   criterion[kraɪˋtɪrɪən]

Definition: a standard that is used for judging something or for making a decision about something

Example1: Everyone whose qualifications meet our criteria will be considered.

Example2: What criteria do you have for selecting patients for treatment?

Definition: to make a long high sound

Example: I could hear the girls squealing with delight.

Definition1: if an attitude or feeling permeates something, you can feel or see its influence clearly in every parts of that thing

Definition2: if gas, liquid, or a smell permeates something , it spreads into and through every parts of it

Example: The demonstration were a manifestation of the people’s discontent.

Definition: if a feeling or powers wanes , it become weaker or less important

Example: His enthusiasm was waning fast.

Definition1: a small number of people or things that are part of a larger group but different in some way from most of the group

Example1: There are not many, a tiny minority, who have misbehaved outrageously.

Example2: In a small minority of cases, the treatment does not help.

Definition2: a part of a population that is different in race, religion, or culture from most of the population

Example1: The regulations are intended to prevent discrimination against minorities.

Example2: Members of ethnic minorities are represented on the committee.

Definition3: someone who is a member of a minority group

Example: As minorities, we need to work together.

Definition: to make the power , position , or achievements you already have stronger or more effective so that they are likely to continue

Example: The president is trying to consolidate support for his proposal.

Definition: the study or use of number and shapes to calculate , represent, or describe things. Mathematics includes arithmetic , geometry , and algebra

Example: Applicants should have a degree in mathematics.

Definition: an attack from a hidden position

Example: The two men were shot and wounded in an ambush.

 

l   predecessor /ˈpredəˌsesər/

Definition1: the person who had a job or official position before someone else

Example: Algood seems to have learned nothing from the faults of his predecessor.

Definition2: something that has been replaced by another thing

Example: The plan , like its two predecessors , had little chance to prove itself.

Definition1: to say that the opposite of what someone has said is true

Example: He didn't dare contradict his parents.

Definition2: if one statement, piece of evidence, story etc contradicts another, they disagree and cannot both be true

Example: Her account of the accident contradicts that of the other driver.

Definition: excitement or worry that you feel when you are waiting to find out what has happened or what will happen

Example1: Hurry up and tell me! The suspense is killing me!

Example2: The film was a masterpiece of suspense.

Example3: Please don't keep me in suspense. I need to know!

Definition: to stop moving or stop what you are doing for a short time before starting again

Example1: She paused at the door and then left.

Example2: He talked for ten minutes, scarcely pausing for breath.

Example3: As we crossed the bridge, we paused to look at the boats.

Example4: He paused for a sip of water before continuing his speech.

Definition: to stop yourself from doing something. This word is often used in official announcements or signs

Example: Please refrain from smoking in this area.

Definition: if someone deigns to do something, they do it but in a way that shows they are not willing

Example: Mandy was the only person who deigned to speak to him.

Definition1: to complain in a way that annoys other people

Example1: For goodness sake, stop whining!

Example2: What are you whining about now?

Definition2: to say something in this way
