1. The doctor prescribed some antibiotics for my skin infection.
Prescribe與assign都有指定的意味，但prescribe強調寫在條文中以供日後他人遵循，尤其現代特別常用來表達醫生開處方簽藥物給病患服用，如同在中文裡，比起醫生「開」了某種藥物給我，我們較難接受醫生「 指定」了某種藥物給我，即使道理上相通，assign與prescribe也無法在開處方簽藥物這件事上互換使用。

2. I called customer service but no one answered the phone.
中文裡頭的「接電話」在英文中的翻譯是"answer the phone"，而不是"respond the phone"，包含「應門」這樣的行為，在英文中也是使用"answer the door"來表達門鈴響起時，走到門口去回應的行為。

3. He bears little resemblance to his biological father.
Resemblance與similarity同樣都表達某種相似性，但resemblance比較著重在外觀上的相似點，譬如長相相似或是體型相似，我們也可以說He bears some similarity to his father. 但此時則是著重於描述兩人間的其他相似處，例如個性或是選擇。
