"I am alive! I made it!" Jamie blurted out those words with tears running down her cheeks. She was floating with a life jacket in the beautiful Aegean Sea.
It was a trip that meant a lot to her. Greece had always been on her "bucket list", a place she wanted to travel to after retirement. After having a major surgery and 6 chemo treatments, she decided that she was not going to wait any longer despite many close friends had tried to talk her out of this trip including mom and dad.
"You never know when the next time is going to come?" said Jamie. "You think you have time, but you don't."
We booked this Catamaran that sailed us to the Red and White beaches, the Indian Head Mountain, hot springs, the volcano and explored private bays for swimming and snorkeling.
For most of us, it was definitely a
life-time experience; for Jamie it was a "turning point" as she
described it. A turning point that God is showing her life is beautiful
that she should seize every opportunity to live it to the fullest. Given
the second chance she has, she wants to explore and embrace life in a
deeper level.
I
like how Gregory of Nyssa, a fourth-century theologian, defines sin. He
said sin is the refusal or failure to grow. Carl Jung said that to grow
we must eventually stop running from our "shadow" and turn to face it.
Where this Europe trip has taken Jamie and all of us will grow us,
hopefully closer to God, and to invigorate us so that when we go back to
our lives we may face what comes our way with a new appreciation and
understanding of life.
