爵士版....Sarah Vaughan "send in the clowns" (Brilliant!!!!!)

Many great singers have done this song very well but, mostly, they missed out on really expressing the irony and regret at the heart of the song.

Many singing actresses have done this song very well, by expressing those things very well. But they don't sing as well

She does both as well as is humanly possibly.

Send in the Clowns

Isn't it rich?
Are we a pair?
Me here at last on the ground,
You in mid-air.
Send in the clowns.

Isn't it bliss?
Don't you approve?
One who keeps tearing around,
One who can't move.
Where are the clowns?
Send in the clowns.

Just when I'd stopped opening doors,
Finally knowing the one that I wanted was yours,
Making my entrance again with my usual flair,
Sure of my lines,
No one is there.

Don't you love farce?
My fault I fear.
I thought that you'd want what I want.
Sorry, my dear.
But where are the clowns?
Quick, send in the clowns.
Don't bother, they're here.

Isn't it rich?
Isn't it queer,
Losing my timing this late
In my career?
And where are the clowns?
There ought to be clowns.
Well, maybe next year.

Judi Dench sings "Send in the Clowns" - BBC Proms 2010
Dame Judi Dench sings "Send in the Clowns" from 'A Little Night Music' at the BBC Proms 2010, Sondheim's 80th Birthday Celebration.

Absolutely brilliant in every way. Partly so good because the voice ISN'T beautiful, at least not conventionally, but Judi Dench LIVES the song. One of the reasons I like it better than Judy Collins is because she sings it in a way that's almost TOO pretty and doesn't reach the pain and disappointment in the song.

Glynis Johns
"Glynis Johns" Send in the Clowns (當初作曲家為她而寫)
音樂劇中第二次為合唱, 在哀傷的幸福裡, 劇終
lynis Johns and Len Cariou recreate the "Send in the Clowns" scene and song from the end of A Little Night Music.
1982 broadcast THAT'S SINGING: THE BEST OF BROADWAY.

Desiree:
Isn't it rich?

Fredrik:
Are we a pair?
You here at last on the ground-

Desiree:
You in midair?
Was that a farce?

Fredrik:
My fault, I fear.

Desiree:
Me as a merry-go-round-

Fredrik:
Me as King Lear.
Make way for the clowns,

Desiree:
Applause for the clowns,

Both:
They're finally here!

電影版 Elizabeth Taylor - Send in the Clowns

A Little Night Music - Elizabeth Taylor 's own voice - Love Takes Time

I saw a twinkle in her eye
It lit a fire deep inside
But it burned so wild and strong
I knew it wouldn't last for long

'Cause love takes time
And it's hard to find
You gotta take some time
To let love grow

I saw a shooting star go by
It blazed a path across the sky
But the beauty did not last, no
Some things just happen all to fast

But love takes time
And it's hard to find
You gotta take some time
To let love grow, whoa
[ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/o/orleans/love_takes_time.html ]
Well some think love's a game
You play for a night or two
But I think that's a shame
'Cause I know that in the end
They're bound to lose

Love takes time
Yes it's hard to find
You gotta take some time
To let love grow

Oh love takes time
I said that it's hard to find
Oh, just take your time
And love will grow
If we really want our love to grow
We gotta take it slow, whoa

Love takes time
Yes it's hard to find
Baby love takes time
Yours and mine, whoa
