望娘灘

The Dragon Pearl

很久以前，在中國四川省岷江附近，住了一對母子，兒子叫小吉，都是好人，可是很窮。每天小男孩小吉為了村民們，爬上山坡去割草。靠著一點點收入，母子倆過著簡單的生活。

Long time ago, near the River Min in the province of Sichuan in China, there lived a woman and her son, Xiao Ji. They were good people but very poor. Every day the boy Xiao Ji hiked into the hillside to cut grass to feed cows and horses for the villagers. With his small earnings, mother and son lived a simple life.

有時候，小吉割完草要回家，會遇到其他也來割草的大男孩，他們看到小吉籃子裡裝滿了青草，總是強迫他把所有的青草都給他們。小吉沒辦法，只好全讓他們拿去，再背著自己的空籃子再去割草。

Sometimes, when Xiao Ji had finished cutting grass to go home, he would met the other elder boys also came to cut the grass. When they saw Xiao Ji’s basket filled with green grass, they always forced him to give them all the grass. Xiao Ji cannot help but let them take it all. Then, he had to carry his empty basket and cut grass again.

小吉真的不喜歡碰到這些大男孩，他決定走很遠，翻過另一個山坡去割草。突然，他發現了一片美麗的草地。小吉很快就割到了一大堆的青草，快快樂樂地回家去。

Xiao Ji really didn’t like to meet these elder boys, so one day, he decided to walk for a long way, over another hillside to cut grass. And suddenly he found a beautiful green grass land. Xiao Ji cut a lot of grass quickly and went back home happily.

第二天，小吉回到山坡上那處同樣的地方，他驚訝地看到昨天割草的地方又長出草了！所以很輕鬆地，他再次收集到足夠的青草。隔天，同樣的地方，哇！完全一樣，草又已經長出來了，小吉對這奇蹟感到好感激。從那時開始，小吉每天都到那裡去割草，而且每一次，哇！都是一樣。所以，雖然距離家裡有一點遠，可是小吉寧願在那裡割草，不願意再遇到其他大男孩。

The next day Xiao Ji returned to that same spot in the hills, surprisingly, he saw the place he cut grass yesterday had grown again! So he gathered enough grass easily once again. And the next day, the same spot, wow! Just the same, the grass had grown again already. Xiao Ji felt so grateful about the miracle. From then on, everyday Xiao Ji went there to cut grass, and every time, wow! Totally the same. So, although it’s a little far away from his home but Xiao Ji rather cut grass there and didn’t want to meet the other elder boys again.

有一天，小吉割完了他需要的草，準備要回家，沒想到，在一旁的草叢中，發現了一顆發著彩色光芒的珠子！他快樂地撿起來，決定送給媽媽。在回家路上，很不幸地，他遇到了其他大男孩。他們看見小吉手上握著什麼東西，立刻走向小吉：「咦，小吉，有什麼東西要給我們看啊？快給我們看。」小吉開始跑開，可是大孩子們比他快，所以他們抓到了小吉，想要搶他的珠子。就在那時候，小吉將珠子放進他的嘴巴裡！

One day, Xiao Ji had cut enough grass he need and ready to go home, unexpectedly, in the grass beside him, he found a pearl with colorful light! He picked it up happily and decided to give to Mother. On the way home, unfortunately, he met the other elder boys. They saw Xiao Ji holding something in hand. They immediately came to Xiao Ji, “Well, Xiao Ji, is there anything want to show us? Let us see it quickly.” Xiao Ji began to run away but the elder boys ran faster than him. So they caught Xiao Ji and tried to grab his pearl. In that moment, Xiao Ji put the pearl into his mouth!

大男孩們喊著：「快給我們！」其中一個開始搖小吉。因為搖得太用力，小吉把珠子吞了進去。突然，小吉覺得胃裡灼熱了起來，開始在地上打滾。大男孩們好害怕，很快就跑開了，沒有人留下來幫助小吉。有一個住在小吉家隔壁的男孩在跑回家時看見小吉的媽媽，他大喊：「小吉的媽，小吉可能吃了什麼不好的東西，他現在正在山坡上打滾呢！」小吉的媽媽立刻上山去找小吉。

"Give it to us!" cried the elder boys. One of them began to shake Xiao Ji. Because he shook so hard, Xiao Ji swallowed the pearl. Suddenly, Xiao Ji felt a burning sensation in his stomach and started to roll on the ground. All elder boys were so scared and ran away quickly, nobody stayed to help Xiao Ji. There’s one boy living next to Xiao Ji’s home saw Xiao Ji’s mother when he ran back home. He shouted, "Ma’am, Xiao Ji maybe ate something bad, he is rolling in the hill now!" Xiao Ji’s mother hurried up the hill to find Xiao Ji.

找了好久，最後她看到小吉跪在岷江邊，張大嘴在不停喝水。小吉媽媽好擔心啊，大喊著：「小吉，小吉，停下來，不要喝，你怎麼啦？」小吉聽見媽媽叫他，回頭看著媽媽，這時，媽媽發現小吉的嘴變長又變大了，就好像馬的嘴巴！同時，頭上長出了兩隻鹿角。

Looking for a long time, finally she saw Xiao Ji kneeling down beside the Min River. Xiao Ji opened his big mouth and continued drinking water. Xiao Ji’s mother felt so worried and shouted, “Xiao Ji, Xiao Ji, Stop it. Don’t drink. What happened to you?” Xiao Ji heard Mother's call, looked back at her mother, at this time, Xiao Ji’s mother found Xiao Ji’s mouth grew longer and bigger, just like a horse mouth! Meanwhile, two deer horns sprouted from his head!

小吉的媽媽不能相信所看到的：「小吉，不要嚇媽媽，回來吧！」可是小吉完全不能控制自己。他繼續喝著水，而且身體變得愈來愈長，愈來愈長！他的身體長出了魚鱗，還有四隻有爪子的腳。他的眼睛變得更大，而突了起來。小吉已經變成了一條龍，開始慢慢飛上天。他的媽媽大聲哭喊：「小吉，回來吧，不要走！」媽媽不停地喊著，龍也不斷回頭看。每次龍轉回來看他媽媽，龍的巨大尾巴就掃過河邊，造成了彎曲的河岸。就這樣，龍轉回了廿四次，就造成岷江廿四個彎彎的河岸。最後，龍消失在雲裡面，變成了河的守護神，小吉再也不能回來和媽媽在一起了。

Xiao Ji’s mother couldn’t believe it, " Xiao Ji, don’ scare your mother, coming back!" But Xiao Ji couldn’t control himself any more. He kept drinking water, and his body became longer and longer! His body grew the fish scales and four feet with claws. His eyes grew bigger and bulged from his head. Xiao Ji had become a dragon and began to fly slowly up to the sky. His mother cried loudly, " Xiao Ji, Come back. Don’t go!" Mother kept shouting and the dragon constantly looked back. Every time the dragon turned around looking at his mother, his mighty tail swept the river's edge, creating a curved riverbank. In this way, the dragon turned around 24 times and made 24 Ming river curved riverbanks. Finally, the dragon disappeared in the Cloud, became the guardian god of the river. Xiao Ji could not come back with his mother again.

直到現在，這廿四個彎彎的河岸仍然在那裡，當地人因為這個感人的故事，就把這些彎彎的河岸稱為「望娘灘」，這就是龍珠的故事。

Till now, the 24 curved riverbanks are still there. Because of this touching story, the local people call these curved riverbanks "the bank of Looking at Mother”. It’s the story “The Dragon Pearl”.
