Billy Caster had been a pirate, but now he was a bus driver. He had a lucky feather in his hat. Every morning, Billy Caster put on his hat and sang, “533 35 3- 533 35 1 No matter day or night, no matter night or day, with feather in my hat, bad luck go away!” As he got on his bus, he sang, “I never drive my bus, I never drive my bus, without the feather, I never drive my bus.” But one day, Billy Caster was driving his bus, a strong wind tugged his lucky feather out of his hat, and the feather flew away! Billy Caster cried “Gone!” All the passengers cried “Gone!” Billy Caster stopped the bus and moaned deep moans, “Oh~ Oh~ Oh~” “Time to go.” said the passengers. “No, I cannot drive without my lucky feather.” said Billy Caster. “But we’ll be late! ” said the passengers. “Better to be late than dead on time” said Billy Caster. One man in the bus said, “Mr.Caster, maybe I can help you. I have a bird shop. There’s a beautiful parrot. I can’t let you pull out a feather but I can sell you the whole bird.” Billy Caster laughed, “the whole parrot! Wow, Just think, full of feathers, all that luck sitting on my hat.” “But there’s one problem. You have to drive to my bird shop first.” said the man. Billy Caster’s smile was gone and began to shake from toes to teeth. “Accident! Accident! I will have an accident!” How could he drive without a good-luck feather? But, nothing happened. Billy Caster drove so slow and arrived at the bird shop finally. He bought the beautiful parrot with one gold coin. The man told him, “This bird is used to traffic. It once belonged to a racing driver.” The parrot hopped on the bus and looked around with a wicked eye. “OK, OK, let’s get this show on the road!” Billy Caster started to drive again. He was no longer afraid. The parrot had thousands of feathers and all will bring good luck! The bird said,“Get moving! Get moving!” “We are moving.” answered Billy Caster. “Don’t think to fool me. Come on, put your foot down!” said the parrot. The bus went faster but the bird was not satisfied. It had belonged to a racing driver. It love speed. It hungered for speed. “Give it the gas! Go, go, go!” The parrot cried. The bus went faster and faster. All the passenger yelled, “Slow down! You will have an accident!” The parrot hopped up and down, screamed, “Faster, Faster! Billy Caster!” The bus was too fast and out of control, ran into a park, across a football field, pass a pond and finally stopped in a garden. All the passenger was so scared and rushed out of the bus. The parrot also wanted to leave, “Disaster, Billy Caster, call yourself a driver! you’re so useless, I want to find a real racing driver!” Billy Caster yelled back, “Call yourself a good-luck parrot! I don’t need you, even one of your feathers! I can drive just fine on my own!” Billy Caster promised the manager of the park he’ll pay for the damage. Then he drove out of the park. He did not shake at all. He sang in a cheerful voice, “No matter day or night, no matter night or day, never no never, will I need feather” But just in case, Billy Caster still crossed his finger, just to make sure. |
