     I

天高地廣水流長;

亦讀詩禮帶書香;

換朝易姓不改變;

農村生活仍平安;

農閑人卻仍不閑;

子須控父始無難;

The writer of these verses is exactly a nerd.
In Chinese manner he writes English work.
If you do not like their exotic flavor,

Kick his arse hard and make a smirk.

                                  The Escape *

A leader’s insanity and absurdity is enough to create a cruel calamity.

It will be worse, if he also herds a legion of stupid, stunning lackey.

This is a true story to tell how lucky is our country
led by the greatest head in our history.

*      I      *

From childhood I lived

        near the Yellow River,

Where the view was vast,

        the sky was high.

Where the woods luxuriant,

        scenery beautiful,

Villages were calm,

        atmosphere quiet.

We were mostly farmers,

        some were also scholars,

With the flavor of rustics

        and the fragrance of books.

Our lives were simple,

        desires reasonable,

Our conducts moral,

        characters were good.

Kinsfolk and friends

        assisted each other.

Neighbors and villagers

        visited one another.

Parents were kind, children pious,

we loved and cared for each other.

Brothers were friendly, sisters intimate,

we cherished and supported one another.

The rich helped the poor,

        the poor helped the rich,

The learned respected the ignorant,

        the ignorant respected learned.

We congratulated at marriages and celebrations,

        consoled at losses and bereavements,

Looked after one another’s elders and children,

watched over each other’s houses and gardens.

Spring rains were sufficient,

nourished the seedlings, sprouting and strong.

Summer winds were soft,

        stimulated the crops, fancifully fragrant.

Autumn yields were bountiful,

often filled our grain bins to their brims.

Winter snows were beautiful,

        excited outside sports, fireside grins.

When we worked in the morning,

        the air was fresh.

When we rested at noon,

        the shade was cool.

Coming home in the evening,

        the clouds were colorful.

Chatting under the moon,

        the atmosphere was jovial.

If work was busy,

        everybody participated.

If work was heavy,

        everybody came to aid.

When time to relish,

        we all took a taste.

When time to rejoice,

        we vied to be crazy.

Every household had plenty food to eat,

        various clothes to wear.

Every family’s members multiplied,

        livestock prospered.

Songs could be heard in all seasons,

often in dialogues or in chorus.

Merriment was spontaneous,

        happiness was everywhere.

*      II      *

For thousands of years it remained unchanged,

        we kept the same manners and ways;

Even after many dynasties and kings

        of different races and names.

The disturbances with foreign invaders

        were only temporary and faraway.

The interference with the infamous warlords

were nothing but some rippling waves.

Although it was a hard time

during the war with the Japanese,

Country life was still safe

with a manageable ease and peace.

But, after the sudden arrival

        of the Russian-reared Communists,

The society was churned into a storm,

        stability was smashed into pieces!

Plowing in spring,

we no longer smelled the sweetness of the soil.

Hoeing in summer,

we no longer saw the beauty of the flowers.

Harvesting in autumn

was not enough for the taxation sacks.

Even with no wind in winter,

        we sheltered and shivered indoors.

When the farm work was busy,

we had to be busy with ‘meetings’.

When the farm work was slack,

        we had no more repose.

Still we had to be busy

        with ‘training’ and ‘readings’.

Also we had to wrestle

        with ‘movements’ and ‘reviews’.

Parents had to inform on their children,

then they would not be lectured.

Children had to charge their parents,

        then they would not suffer.

Relatives and friends

         avoided one another like lepers.

Brothers and sisters

        Should watch on each other.

Marriages and celebrations,

for a long time, all ceased.

Even death and birth,

for a short period, no one dared.

Neighbors and villagers,

dropped their heads, turned their backs.

The poor struggled against the rich,

with cool cruelty -- with fiery flare!
