T.S. Eliot - The Hollow Men

We are the hollow men
We are the stuffed men
Leaning together
Headpiece filled with straw. Alas!
Our dried voices, when
We whisper together
Are quiet and meaningless
As wind in dry grass
Or rats' feet over broken glass
In our dry cellar

Shape without form, shade without colour,
Paralysed force, gesture without motion;

Those who have crossed
With direct eyes, to death's other Kingdom
Reomember us - if at all - not as lost
Violent souls, but only
As the hollow men
The stuffed men.

The words of the Teacher, son of David, king in Jerusalem:
"Meaningless! Meaningless!" says the Teacher. "Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless."
What does man gain from all his labor at which he toils under the sun?
Generations come and generations go, but the earth remains forever.

Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the whole duty of man.

Anyway, thanks for your kindly sharing.

How about the bridge between the ideals and reality
2008/11/16 23:33

The gap between the ideals and reality should be bridged. Lots of time, we tend to set up higher and higher fences to protect us from being hurt and  guarantee us a more comfortable life. However, the fences don't serve the roles of the protection, but it blocks us from having closer and more intimate relationship with outer world or ideals. Each day we are given countless stones. However, it is our decision to set up the wall( fences) toward the ideas or bridge the gap between ideals and reality.

Hollow is a fantastic word---

Hollow means empty--The  condition of being hollow has a potential to contain more and learn more.

It also remind us not to be hollow-hearted. Only being true to oneself can bridge the gap between the ideals and reality.

Try not make our life hollow, otherwise it will be very horrible. Haha

I don't wanna be a hollow person with a hollow-hearted attitude. I don't wanna to have a horrible and hollow life. Therefore, bridging the gap between the ideals and reality is very essential.

Haha, preventing from having hollow eyes, I shall stop right here. Good night.

T.S Eliot

HooDoo(HooDoo)
