Those sweet corns are definitely the cutest!  

I asked a friend of mine who is a sweet corn expert (his doctoral dissertation was on something related to it).  He said the small ears could be a result of underwater (they need heavy watering, especially at the beginning), or it could be lacking nutrients (they love nitrogen, and you need to up the ratio of phosphorus as the ears start to develop), or it could even be some dieses (the kind of answer you expect when asking a “scholar,” haha!).  He said you should never transplant corn as their roots are far too delicate.  He also said it’s very important to pick them at the right time (there is apparently only a 3-day window of ripeness).
