Well, I have many upgrades this year to make the boat ready for any long distance trip: Part A: NEW ELECTRONICS * ICOM m710 Single Side Band with AT-130 auto tuner - it can be turned thru my PC. * Pactor IIex SSB modem with Pactor III firmware upgrade (5x speed over Pactor II) I can therefore making call and receiving email (via Airmail) / weatherfax even in the middle of the ocean - not limited by the line of sight. Install SSB is somehow complicated task - even for me, a PhD of Electrical Engineering. I have a good grounding plates installed. I didn't use an insulated backstay. Instead, I have a isolated wire raised to the mast top. It works fine. * Notebook computer secured * Nobeltec Visual Navigation Suite installed in PC * AIS (Automatic Identification System): all commercial traffic can be monitored on my PC PART B: ELECTRIC SYSTEM *1000 watt inverter installed. I think it should be a proper size to be used with my three 8D battery bank. Well, if I need more power, I do carry a 1500Watt portable gas generator. * changed many cabin light into 12Volt LED red light. I used those LED lights for car - $15 for two at GoodGuy and its bright! I don't like those old marine light connector - its not a good design. I tear it up and put these LED lights in. Love it! PART C: SAFETY EQUIPMENT * New ACR GlobalFIX 406 EPIRB with build-in GPS and self-release * 8 Person life raft with self release hardware. * New fire distinguisher * New Ditch Bag * Immersion Suit and Self - floating working suit. * Sea drouge with 200' of line + snatch block * Standing rig cutter PART D: Autopiloting * Fleming Global 60 Windvane installed. It was a used unit. I completely restore it before put it on the boat. Works great! * Added a Gyro into my Raymarine Autopilot so it will be more accurate in the ocean. Part E: STANDING RIGS AND RUNNING RIGS * New shrouds * New Furlex roller furler wth a new forestay * New staysail stay with quick release hardware * New running back stays * New boom brake + boom vane with new attachment points on the boom * New 3-lines stopper on the mast * New club foot with boom vane installed. * folding steps and attaching ring on the mast top * ACR Topclimber PART F: SAILS * New main Sail * New roller furling yankee * New 135% roller furling genoa * New Back-up staysail (hanks) PART G: GROUND TACKLE * Lewmar Pro 1000 windlass installed. This one is small but it can pull 1000 lb! * 250' anchor line with 50' chain (5/16"). PART H: PLUMBING * Second bilge water pump (1700 GPH) with 1 1/4" pipe for extra security. * Replaced sea water piping manifold - to make it secure. * Foot pump for both sea water and fresh water. PART I: OTHERS Even the engine was painted to removed rust. |
