In Casino, "Cash in" and "Cash out" are commonly used phrases. Same as in real world, but those two phrases just evolve into business strategies.
All these years in Silicon Valley, we are playing the game of "cash in" and "cash out" at the company level. In a small group, cash in means getting more budget for your team, to reward or to increase your head counts. For a company, "Cash in" means bringing extra cash to the company, through private funding, or go for IPO, then pump the stock price for those extra cash. The extra money is supposed to be used on the investments that are aligned with the company objectives, either through hiring more people, buying more equipments, or just simply buying another company. "Cash out" means, you know, take your money and get out of the game. After experienced a couple downturns, we have learned the art to keep our heart still. Playing the game is not much different from the casino games, just the scale is bigger, the money amount is higher, and more people are playing in this game. Lots of new comers like to call us stillwater. Yes, we have to act the same no matter whether the business is good or bad, no matter how we think differently at times. Every moment, you just keep your eye of the card dealt to you and figure out how to response. A small win is not a win, a big loss is not a loss. We learn to follow what our hearts guide us to, not getting emotional attached to how much money is on the table, but about how much chips you still have on your pocket. "Cash in" and "Cash out", it is a very simple game, yet it is never going to be a boring one. It is just about making the right moves at the right moments. |
