引用文章撤除雷達的直昇機父母

Parents wish their kids to reach the top or be top (頂尖 優秀)and make their kids spin like a busy top(陀螺 )from the early morning till the midnight.

I do believe if one wishes to be top (頂尖 優秀), he or she should be like a whipping top whipped and guided by a string, and parents are supposed to be the ones who have whip hands push and pull their children to well-develop their potential abilities on the process of trials and errors.

Therefore, 勉強 is important. I do believe the powerful but graceful strengh( 強)results from the consistant encouragement and the spirits of striving to do what is beyond one's power(勉). 勉強 from my understandings means forcing oneself to manage with an effort or do with difficulty even when he/she is reluctant or unwilling to keep working.
As a teacher, all I can do is simple---give my students consistant encouragement when they meet difficulties and motivate them to make things happen.

reaching full potentials
2009/02/10 12:10

Although it is good sometimes to motivate children to try to reach beyong their abilities, parents, especially Oriental parents, tend to "force" the issue and use that as the only means to measure if their children have succeeded. Because of this, lots of students simply try all means to get good marks at school and forget to cultivate their inner creativities and various interests.

Having good marks at aschool is not the only criterion for top students; educating students to become well-rounded is most important. I believe in motivating children to reach their full potentials, but, at the same time, encouraging them to create their own world and try out different things.

I totally agree with your inspiring sharing, especially for the part you mentioned, " students shouldn't forget to cultivate their inner creativities and various interests while being forced/ motivated to have better performance and have good marks at school in order to reach their full potentials and become well-rounded."

We visited several universities in Korea so far, and I figured out the university students in Korea follow the traditional virture and stand proundly to be Korean. Although their English abilities are not very good, they still wanna share something amazing about Korean culture, history, values, manners of interacting with others, principles, living style, eating habits, food....and so.

Thanks for sharing me the inspiring and warm feedback.
