《前》

嗯…這個什麼「腳前的燈、路上的光」，好像老套了點兒。
我得再想個別的。

薇薇學姊說，她門前的韮菜又長到無法無天，要我趕快去剪些回家用。。
韓式泡菜用得上韮菜，炒豆干絲也行。。
可我怎好空手到，想寫張手工卡片說說心裡的話。。

薇薇學姊只大我一屆，高中、大學都同校，甚且同在文學院混了三年，彼此從不曾打過照面。

離校快廿年，繞了大半個地球，才在這小地方相遇，兩人住處相距不過五公里。

我們稱薇薇是「居家組」：有別於咱們這群「逸樂組」的阿巴桑，舉凡購物、聚餐、閒嗑牙，薇薇從不出席。

她多半在家操持家務、練琴、教小孩。還有，讀聖經。

不但吃飯逛街的邀約她不為所動，最近大學教職出缺，找上了比較文學畢業的薇薇，她也回絕了。

誰都看出她的意志在搖擺。

向左、向右走會有不同結果，我希望薇薇學姊能跨出封閉的生活，卻又不願刻意往她推向某一個決定。

決定了，就這個。挺好的，不太說教，也還有點想像的空間。

人往往不如自己想像的那麼重要，世上沒有一個人的地位是無可取代。
覺得自己太重要，經常是種錯覺；錯覺，來自固執、習慣，或一廂情願。

好比沒有韮菜，豆干也可炒別玩意兒；少了韮菜，Kim-Chi一樣作得出好味道。

我要如何告訴薇薇，少了她，中國文學史的課大不了從外州請個臨時講師；
又怎麼跟她說，一週兩小時的課，家裡不少她這點時間？

彎身剪韮菜，為了偷瞄薇薇，忽然發現自己蹲姿極端不雅；只見她看了卡片，拭了眼角。

臨走前她拉著我的手禱告 (哇哩咧…這個我可沒準備呀！)，引用了腓利比書四章十三節。

慚愧的是我惱子裡只想著…是、是…學姊，靠著妳加給我的韮菜，我凡事都能行…
