The 50-episode TV drama captures the antagoism, struggle and fighting between KMT and CCP throughout early 20′s to late 40′s. Setting off the gripping narrative of the drama is the complicate relationship between two families, Yang’s and Qu’s, from which the zealous votaries of Dr. Sun Yat-shen are pursuing the same goal: save China through revolution. The road to new China bifurcates, and the young believers turn out to be diehard KMT rightist, moderate KMT leftist and devout communists, respectively.

To the best of my knowlege, the storyline is close to facts. During the time when Huang Pu Academy and Guangzhou revolutionary government were flourishing, Dr, Sun promulgated his doctrine of "ally with Russia, embrace communists and have resort to peasants and workers". But KMT betrayed his will and the social trend, so the debacle in 1949 had long been a lost cause.

We are lucky to have partially witnessed the history. One day in the springtime of 1949 when PLA were marching into Shanghai, I was there watching the parade through window sill.
