After a long way riding on cable cars and hiking through a lot of sinuous trails, we finally reached the "entrance" of Tianmen Mountain and the Cave in Tianmen Mountain National Park, Zhangjiajie, a natural hole in the mountain of a height of 131.5 m. ( There are kilometres of paths built onto the cliff face at the top of the mountain, including sections with glass floors, but we did not take that alternative. In fact, I was really unaware of how did I get to the Cave.) Then we went "inside" the mountain to take a two-way escalator of over ten sectors, and every sector is at least 100 meters long, going downward to an open platform in the halfway up the mountain. (Oh my goodness, they excavated the mountain to install such a long escalator in there.) From the platform, tourist could look up the Cave, a big, natural hole of uncanny workmanship, where some stunt riders or even pilots, most of them were from other countries, had done some arobatics before. (But I think that would be a disrespectful act to the nature.) Despite being tired already due to long walk and hot weather, I tried hard to climb up that "Sky Ladder" of 999 steps to the Cave. But my exhausted feet failed me and I gave it up at 500th step. An 11 km road with 99 bends also reaches the top of the mountain and takes visitors to Tianmen Cave from the bottom, but now we took the winding road the other way round: going downwards by shuttle buses to the parking lot, yearning for getting on our bus. We were all tired. |
