Report said when the principal of Peking University was delivering a speech in the universitys 120th anniversary, he observed the phrase 莘莘學子 as "jin jin xue zi" instead of the correct one "shen shen xue zi". Obviously, the principal uttered a mispronounced character. But I guess the majority of the ordinary people would pronounce the phrase as "xin xin xue zi", though such a wrong pronounciation has been here to stay. Let it become a good habit for you that if you doubt about how to pronounce a word, do always look it up in a dictionary. Speaking and writing kings Chinese are of utmost importance. P.S. The report also said the principal hesitantly stammered out "hong hao", instead of the correct one"hong hu", when he referred to "鴻鵠之志". |
