Attached below is a retrospective speech delivered by Prof. Lin Yifu, in which he said how lucky and how grateful that he was born in this great era to witness his country emerging from poverty, the enormous accomplishment in economic growth both of China's Mainland and China's Taiwan. Certainly, he must have been one of the key designers of China's economic plans, but he didn't boast of his achivement; instead, he just thanked for all people who had ever given him a hand, including his direct superior in Kimen, who later became the minister of defense in Taiwan and banned Lin to return Taiwan for his father's funeral. Mr. Lin is a legend, and he is my hero, too. FYI, I had been an officer in Kimen and stationed just next to his company from where he swan to Mainland several years later. I looked into Mainland from my place everyday, lamenting the fate of a disunited China. To be honest with you; however, I had never thought of doing what Mr. Lin did. So he is a man of great vision!
