A Hug a Day Keeps the Doctor Away
Hugging is the easiest, cheapest, and quickest way to show someone you care, and there is even a holiday to honor it. National Hugging Day was created by Reverend Kevin Zaborney in Michigan in 1986 and is celebrated on January 21 every year. Zaborney believed that Americans were too embarrassed to display their feelings publicly, and he wanted to change that. That fact is true when compared to the French, who are believed to spend three times as much time hugging as Americans.
National Hugging Day is meant to encourage and inspire people to hug more often. Since the day is about feeling good, the idea soon spread. However, don’t limit yourself to hugging only on January 21. Instead, you should try to lift someone’s spirits every day of the year.
