華府書友會一月份演講 David Hogge(侯達偉)主講 「慈禧在美國：為國際外交服務的皇家畫像」 《華府書友會新聞稿1/11/2012》 慈禧太后難得入鏡，入鏡照竟還入境華府、面向世界！ 慈禧太后（1835至1908年）是晚清同治、光緒兩朝的最高決策者，她垂簾聽政、統治中國47年，她乾綱獨斷、運國脈於股掌之上，成為近代中國最有權力、最被議論的人物。36幅未曾公開展示的慈禧攝影，去年9月24日起首度在華府史密斯松尼國家博物館(Smithsonian Museums)下的沙可樂亞洲藝術館(Sackler Gallery of Art)展出至今年元月29日止(特展 相關活動，請閱網址www.asia.si.edu)。這個名為「權力與游藝：中國的慈禧太后。」 (Power\Play: China’s Empress Dowager)的攝影特展，是由David Hogge策劃、主持，Hogge 在預展中指出，慈禧拍照的背景是19世紀末內憂外患、內外交迫下的中國：戊戌變法、義和團事件、庚子事變和八國聯軍。慈禧在八國聯軍後為了修復她個人在西方世界的形象、修補中國對外關係，開始引入一些洋玩意，也包括了攝影。據Hogge多年來對史料與圖片的研究，慈禧每次拍照都十分重視，不只選良辰吉日，策劃劇本、配飾造景，都嚴格要求，而這些精心製作、精彩絕倫的皇家照片也成為國際外交服務的禮物之一。 華府書友會很榮幸地請到該攝影特展的策劃人、主持人David Hogge向華府華裔朋友主講 「慈禧在美國：為國際外交服務的皇家畫像」，英文演講，華府書友會現場提供必要翻譯。 時間：2012年1月21日(星期六)下午1點半至4點 地點：Twinbrook Library (202 Meadow Hall Drive, Rockville, MD 20851) 聯络：wclsweb@gmail.com或金慶松（703）291-4201 講者簡歷：侯達偉(David Hogge)是史密斯松尼博物館亞洲藝術弗利爾|沙可樂檔案館館長 ，他擁有華盛頓大學的藝術史碩士學位。2009年，他與杭州的唐云畫廊合作推出《西湖的歷史照片展覽》，其中的西湖歷史照片大多來自檔案館內Benjamin March的論文。他也寫了 一篇有關博物館創始人查爾斯弗利爾(Charles Freer)的相片和他1910年遠征龍門石窟的 文章，圖文並茂，刊登在《亞洲藝術》2011年九/十月期刋中；他是「權力與游藝：中國的慈禧太后。」攝影特展的策劃人、主持人，也是2011年12月「帝國曝光：亞洲各地早期攝影和 皇家畫像」(Imperial Exposure: Early Photography and Royal Portraits Across Asia)研討會的 主持人之一。 [ News Release on 1/11/2012 by WCLS] On January 21, 2012, Saturday, from 1:30 pm - 4:00 pm, the Washington Chinese Literary Society (WCLS) will be presenting its first program of the year at the Twinbrook Library community meeting room (202 Meadow Hall Drive, Rockville, MD 20851, 240-777-0240). He holds a master’s degree in art history from the University of Washington. In 2009, he collaborated with the Tang Yun Gallery in Hangzhou to exhibit selections of historical photographs of West Lake from the Archives’ Benjamin March papers. He wrote an article on museum founder Charles Freer’s photographs and journals of his 1910 expedition to the cave temples of Longmen, which appears in the Sept.-Oct. 2011 volume of Arts of Asia. Hogge is the curator of the exhibition Power|Play: China’s Empress Dowager, and is co-coordinator of the December 2011 symposium titled Imperial Exposure: Early Photography and Royal Portraits Across Asia.
