The gifts are unwrapped. Paper and ribbons strewn about

Santa may, or may not, have given you what you wanted

Regardless, you smile and say thank you

Take a sip of coffee, a bite of that cookie

But before you slip into the celebration of this day

Take a breath - and ponder

What this Christmas day means to you

May that spirit and meaning of this day

Fill your heart and bring joy to those around you

Remember also that we, too, are a gift

That gift, the selfless gift of ourselves

Has the power to touch, to inspire, perhaps to heal

Those around us who wait for a simple act of kindness, the right word

May we always strive to be that gift - that special present to one, or to many

Not just for this day, but in the days to come

Merry Christmas to you - and to your beloved, one and all
