| 一開始, Cavafy 似乎是以智者的語調祝福正要從特洛伊踏上歸程的奧德賽。 自持無畏. 歷練激險. 探求於新知. 驚豔於新奇, 這些也是旅人.背包客所秉持和期盼的。 旅人和背包客時而挾藝文而遨翔, 瞭然於牛魔王鐵扇公主之虛幻. 獨眼巨人和海妖之擬喻。 何來孫悟空的輔佐, 何須雅典娜的眷顧。 誠如Cavafy的信息: 人生的歷程是比到達(終點)還重要。 1994年, 美國前總統夫人賈桂琳.甘迺迪的追悼會上, 他們的長子 約翰(Jr.) 選擇幾篇詩句.短文來詠懷她的三樣特質: the love of words, bonds of home and family, and her spirit of adventure. 她的摰友 Maurice Templeman 先生朗誦她鍾愛的 Ithaca。 他接著詠嘆 "And now the journey is over, too short, alas, too short. It was filled with adventure and wisdom, laughter and love, gallantry and grace. So farewell, farewell." 從電視轉播,美國民眾窺識到她的另一面, 也認識她悲劇人生中第三位男仕和 Cavafy 的 Ithaca. (注3) 這首詩的寓意不止於 "adventure". 從第32和33行 Ithaca gave you the marvelous journey. Without her you would have not set out. 基督教友或許能連想到新約聖經啟示錄22章13節: "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last." 或是, 神所創生的歸宿於神。(注4) 然而, Cavafy 在結尾突如其來的 "these Ithacas" (複數), 有如身陷黑窟因驚狂而屢屢撞壁彈回, 每每破傷落地之後所迸亮出的頓悟。 完 注1, 伊利亞特和奧德賽有可能不是同一人所作, 但習慣上都以荷馬的史詩稱之。 依M.I. Finley的書"The World of Odysseus", 1982, p. 11~12, 到1963為止, 在埃及出土的1,596古代(紙莎草紙papyrus)書卷當中, 將近一半是荷馬史詩(伊利亞特對奧德賽是3比1), 其他依序是古代雅典有名的演講家Demosthenes(88), 古雅典三大悲劇作家之一Euripides(77), 古希臘神話作家Hesiod(72), 柏拉圖(42), 亞理斯多德(7)。 注2, Barak 是一部實驗性的電影由世界各地歷史文物取景, 配上音樂, 完全沒有語言。根據 Mr. Babylonianman, 他能辨認以下幾個場景: Hagia Sophia, the Great Pyramid of Giza, St.Paul's Cathedral in Rome, the Shah Cheragh mosque with mirrors, the Mesa Arch in Utah and the temple of Angkor Wat in Cambodia. 注3, 有兩本書提及朗誦 Ithaca 的事: 1.
