1. Hīyo araññaṃ gato so puriso ahinā daṭṭho mari.

Yesterday, the man who had gone to the forest was bitten by a snake and died.

marati: to die

māreti: (causative) to kill, murder

2. Rukkhato otiṇṇā pakkhī dārakena sakkharāhi hatā honti.

The birds which have descended from the tree(s) are killed by the boy with gravel.

otarati: to descend, go down

3. Purisena pharasunā chinno so rukkho tassa gehassa upari pati.

The tree which was cut by the man with an axe fell over his house.

4. Gāmato nikkhantā tā gāviyo khette tiṇaṃ khāditvā vāpito jalaṃ pivissanti.

Those cows which have come out of the village will eat grass in the field and drink water from the tank.

5. Vāṇijehi nagarato āhaṭāni bhaṇḍāni imesu gāmesu manussehi kītāni (honti).

The goods which have been brought by the merchants from the city are bought by people in these villages.

6. Tāya kaññāya pakkaṃ odanaṃ aṭavito āgatā tassā bhātaro bhuñjitvā sayissanti.

Her brothers, who have come from the forest, will eat the rice cooked by that girl and sleep.

7. Pitarā vuttaṃ anussarantī sā yuvati tāya laddhaṃ dhanaṃ gaṇhituṃ na icchi.

Remembering what was said by the father, that maiden did not want to take the wealth received by her /she received.

anussarati: to remember, recollect, bear in mind

8. Ekena hatthinā chinnaṃ sākhaṃ aññā hatthiniyo gahetvā khādiṃsu.

The other she-elephants took and ate the branch cut by one elephant.

9. Kuto tumhehi imāni vatthāni tāni padumāni ca kītāni?

From where were these clothes and those lotuses bought by you?

From where did you buy these clothes and those lotuses?

10. Kuddho so bhūpati tasmiṃ nagare vutthe sabbe manusse tato nīhari.

The enraged king ejected all the people who had lived in that city from there.

nīharati: to take out, to throw out, drive out, eject   pp. nīhaṭa

11. Sappena daṭṭho vāṇijassa putto tassa dāsehi ekassa vejjassa santikaṃ nīto hoti.

The merchant’s son, who was bitten by a snake, is carried to a doctor by his slaves.

vejja: (m) a physician, doctor, surgeon

neti (nayati): to lead, guide, conduct; to take, carry (away)   pp. nīta

12. Idha imasmiṃ pīṭhe nisinnaṃ kumāriṃ gehato āgatā aññā dārikā pahari.

Another girl who came from the house struck the girl that sat on this chair here.

13. Tāya pahaṭā sā kaññā tassā mātuyā santikaṃ gatā rodantī aṭṭhāsi.

That girl who was beaten by her went near her mother and stood crying.

14. Magge gacchantā te purisā tāya dhenuyā bhinnaṃ ghaṭaṃ passiṃsu.

Those men who were going on the road saw the water-pot broken by that cow.

ghaṭa: (m) water-pot, vase, pitcher

15. Bhūpati tehi manussehi katāni gehāni passitvā tesaṃ mūlaṃ adāsi.

Having seen the houses built by those men, the king gave money to them.

Translate into Pali

1. The peacock, having descended from the tree, has gone now to the rock.

Rukkhato otiṇṇo so mayūro /sikhī idāni pāsāṇaṃ gato.

2. Having been bitten by a serpent the boy was carried to a physician.

Sappena /Ahinā daṭṭho so dārako ekassa vejjassa santikaṃ nīto ahosi /bhavi.

3. This woman does not like to take the money received from her sister.

Ayaṃ vanitā tassā bhaginiyā laddhaṃ mūlaṃ gaṇhituṃ na icchati.

4. The man who has come from that village bought (some) goods from this market.

Tamhā gāmamhā āgato so puriso imasmā āpaṇasmā bhaṇḍāni kiṇi.

5. Remembering his mother's words the boy did not go to the dead man.

Tassa mātarā vuttaṃ anussaranto so kumāro mataṃ purisaṃ na gacchi.

Tassa mātarā vuttaṃ anussaranto so kumāro matassa purisassa santikaṃ na gacchi.

6. My aunt's cows will come out of the forest and will eat the grass mowed and brought by the slave woman.

Mama mātulāniyā gāviyo aṭavito nikkhamma dāsiyā chinnaṃ āhaṭaṃ ca tiṇaṃ khādissanti.

7. Having seen a man sleeping on the bed the householder told his boys not to go near him.

Gahapati mañce sayantaṃ ekaṃ naraṃ disvā tassa santikaṃ na gantuṃ tassa dārake avaca.

vatti: to speak, say, tell, call   aor. avaca, avoca

8. A deer was seen by the maiden who was cooking rice for her mother.

Tassā mātuyā bhattaṃ pacantiyā yuvatiyā eko migo diṭṭho bhavi.

9. The rice that was cooked by her is given to beggars and crows.

Tāya pacito odano yācakānaṃ kākānaṃ ca dinno hoti.

10. The house made by them was broken by an elephant.

Tehi kataṃ gehaṃ ekena hatthinā bhinnaṃ ahosi.

11. The enraged king killed all men who came to the city.

Kuddho so bhūpati nagaraṃ āgate sabbe nare māresi.

12. The branch broken by the elephant fell on the ground, and afterwards your cows ate its leaves.

Hatthinā bhinnā sākhā bhūmiyaṃ pati, pacchā tava dhenuyo tassa paṇṇāni khādiṃsu.

13. The garland received from the queen by that girl is given to another girl.

Rājiniyā tāya kaññāya laddhā mālā aññāya kaññāya dinnā hoti.

14. The rice given to them was eaten by the slaves and the beggars.

Tesānaṃ dinnaṃ bhattaṃ dāsehi yācakehi ca bhuttaṃ ahosi.

15. The horse bought by the millionaire is carried by a charioteer.

Seṭṭhinā kīto asso sārathinā haṭo hoti.
