Five Photos for the Queen *
Obeying Queen Catherine’s decree,
I submitted five bio-photos of mine.
Here I posted them to let you see,
how Time would work on a man.
When I was born in the country,
no photographer was ever there.
Later I did have some portraits,
war destroyed them all together.
The first one here its year is unknown.
I know it was after I left the inferno.
There was fresh, free air in my nose;
so my face is dreamy and aglow.
The second was taken at twenty-five,
while I was under a surveillance.
Intended as a souvenir to my family;
however, I eventually survived.
At fifty-five I took the third,
prepared to end my work.
Half my life I endeavored,
nothing had any worth.
The forth was taken at sixty-five,
for the purpose of an emigration.
I love my country all my life,
but must move to a new nation.
At seventy-five I took the number five,
in order to make a certain registration.
Why that sort of sour-sweet smile?
Thought of some sore recognition?
Here we can witness a fact:
Time constantly rushes us to ripe.
When it turns day and night,
my hair is turned thin and white.
Some men have a place in the sun.
Some live without much light.
Some may be swept away soon.
Some might still stubbornly fight.
I’ll take a sixth at five past eighty,
and a seventh at five past ninety.
It’s for a certain attestation.
How shall I then appear?
Please wait with anticipation.
Please wait for an astonishment!
