( II ) English Original

A Letter to the Editors (II)

Dear Editors:

All the fameless works

are worthless waste.

even my polished verses

are verbose and base!

They are not to win prizes or awards,

but your laughters and sneers.

The best are for you

to throw into the basket.

The rest are for me

to polish, more years.

I was a communist scientific man on the Chinese mainland,

escaped for a wife to the Nationalist refugees in Taiwan;

from a black-collar scholar to a blue-collar worker,

from a respectable researcher to a contemptible deserter.

Since, I enjoyed

sufferings and slights;

thus, I started writing

to record and describe:

What I look at, laugh at, love and like;

part of my hopes, hates, thoughts and sighs;

a cat’s philosophies and feelings, canine’s sex and life;

some rabbit’s wonders, sorrows, rat’s searches and delights.

Now I submit to you.

Hope you may have a look.

They are catalyzed :

by angels’ chic cheeks

and devils’ big breasts.

They are crystallized:

from barrels of bogus boozes

and vessels of stinky sweats.

I can’t speak and write with English without some errors;

these verses may be not terse, but rather absurd.

If you are daring to cut some off and cover some up,

they might be more messy and further awkward.

Perhaps you may wonder why and how

I dare to show off my things, so thin and raw.

One reason is to get out early from fury and misery;

the others are for some boring, roaring -- soaring causes.

Kookily yours,

Kuo-Pen Yung

The candid candidate of

some hearty pats on the back,

but heartily prepared for

more hard kicks in the butt.

PS:

One can’t cast a single, thin line

to seek in the vast, deep sea;

then pray and wait…

pray and wait…

until perish –

No fish!

That’s why I cast my big and thick nets

into both the high sea and blue sky.

Maybe it’s easier for me to catch

either a squawking swan,

or a slippery sea lion.

Maybe both of them

for wine and dine.

Still nothing!?

No, thanks,

and then.

Anything?

Anyone?

Fine!
