Devouring time, blunt thou the lions paws
光陰盡吞噬，獅爪請磨平，
And make the earth devour her own sweet brood,
張口令大地，自噬其孩嬰，
Pluck the keen teeth from the fierce tigers jaws
下顎拔銳齒，逕向猛虎行，
And burn the long-livd phoenix in her blood,
焚化不死鳥，浴血鳳凰命。
Make glad and sorry seasons as thou fleetst,
季節賦悲歡，飛逝沿途徑，
And do what eer thou wilt, swift-footed time,
馳騁者光陰，但由爾任憑：
To the wide world and all her fading sweets:
於此蒼茫世，諸美終凋零，
But I forbid thee one most heinous crime,
獨此罪惡極，對君我禁令：
O carve not with thy hours my loves fair brow,
莫將歲月刀，畫眉於我卿，
Nor draw no lines there with thine antique pen,
不使滄桑筆，紋路寫其形，
Him in thy course untainted do allow
允保不玷染，時序隨君行，
For beautys pattern to succeeding men.
為美立模範，後世見光影。
Yet do thy worst, old time, despite thy wrong,
任爾恣意之，光陰縱無情，
My love shall in my verse ever live young.
