I have never been there.  But I heard of the city as early as I was a junior high student from a namesake American song and movie which sung and played by Marty Robbins. (I cannot recall its translated Chinese name.)   The movie is a second-class one of western style, but the theme song of the ballad is relatively pleasant to listen to.  I still remember the song starts with "Out in the west Texas town of El Paso, I fell in love with a Mexican girl...."

From the lyrics we know El Paso is located in far western Texas, being adjacent to Mexico, and there must be a lot of Mexican immigrants.  (Actually, Texas used to be Mexican territories.).  Yesterday a horrendous gunshot massacre took place at a Walmat store in the city, having claimed at least 20 lives and injured many more.  A young, extremely bloody white racist made such a "commonplace" tragedy happened.  The same day, there was also a massacre gunshot taking place in Dayton, Ohio, and at least 9 persons were killed.  Less than a week ago, there was a gunshot in a garlic festival of some town in California, just 40 minutes drive from my place, and three innocent people, including a kid, were killed.

There were ardent discussions about the control or even the ban on guns in America every time when serious gunshots occurred.  But all attempts had been proved futile at last, and you know the root causes.  My advice to all people in America, including my kids, is to follow that famous proverb which I have always mentioned: "Fools rush in where wise men fear to tread."  If you do need go to some crowded places, such as shopping mall, churches, games, and so on, be careful of the suspicious people around you any time.
