500 Miles最早是Hedy West於1961年發行， 但並沒有因此走紅，反倒是兩年後由當時知名的男歌手Bobby Bare 把這首歌給唱紅了，從此這首歌開始了它的長青旅程。 最有名的版本是1962年Peter， Paul & Mary合唱的版本，

短短三年的時間奠定了這首歌注定為經典金曲的命運， 數十年來的時間並沒有沖淡人們對它的喜愛 幾乎是合唱團體傳唱度最高的一首。 (世界各國還會有各國的語言版本。) 2013年一部電影Inside Llewyn Davis(醉香民謠) 又再次讓這首歌燃起了熱度， 電影有人氣歌手大賈斯汀以及兩位知名演員的這段合唱， 讓人又再感動一次。 這首歌唱起了許多離鄉背井的遊子， 離家時滿懷夢想想闖出一片天， 結果失意不知道該如何回家， 我們都希望能依錦還鄉， 可又有多少人能如願以償，如今已身無分文，思鄉心切卻無顏面對江東父老， 讓家人失望的感覺才是最難面對的。
