Q:
why didn't most people raise questions like you did?
A:
good question. Because
1)as
long as he makes good movies to entertain his audiences, nobody cares
about who did what to whom. Nobody is interested in finding the
truth or digging the dirt of a movie directed by this “international
well-known director”. Everybody believes he is a nice and decent
man and wouldn't do indecent things, not mention to his illegal
practices. Besides, making this movie, he obviously didn't hurt
anyone's interests. Instead, he let a lot people see what they want
to see, so very few people would feel unhappy. That's why few
people raised questions such as whether or not there were wrongdoings
in making this film.
(2)the
majority is usually wrong. The majority tends to be gullible. keep in mind that it
is usually the majority who vote for the incompetent politicians to
be their leader, then letting these trash victimize all of the voters. Because of the
foolishness and laziness of the majority people, a lot of ambitious
and greedy bastards from politicians to filmmakers certainly take
advantage of this opportunity to manipulate a lot of things in the
interest of themselves and at the expense of the others. Here in
this case, the gullible majority rooting for their beloved director
believed that everything he did in making this film was right and
excellent. There is no way their darling would do anything wrong,
because everything he did was “art”, not obscenity.
The
majority believes that unlike corrupt and incompetent politicians, a
movie director cannot simply let a movie he made hurt their
interests, no matter how indecent he is. Even if he did immoral and
illegal things to hurt his actress when making an indecent movie and
so what? An indecent filmmaker may be viewed as “harmless” in
our society, if compared to a bad politician. Most people tend to
mind their own business unless their own interests got hurt.
(3)he
is a veteran director and an academy award winner. He certainly
knows how to skillfully express his idea to entertain his audiences.
He obviously was very good at manipulating almost everything when
making this film. Therefore, as long as the naked leading
actor and the nude leading actress performing graphic sexual
intercourse scenes in different positions were so well- choreographed
as to feed an entire movie's worth of plot, the audiences and critics
would only praise him for the tricks he used to handle this and that
and would not be able to sense something wrong, because the audiences
were so deeply influenced by the thrilled plots and scenes and would
just buy what he sold.
Remember? Some college professors, behaving like they're on his
payroll, wrote plenty of trashy articles to praise his obscene piece
of shit and his “achievements”.
(4)most
people are not curious enough to explore the dark side of a lot of
things that happened in our society. They just want to see what they want to see.
They just want to hear what they want to hear. A movie, for
example, they want to see a short story with a lot of exciting plots
along with “spicy pictures and explicit sex scenes”. This movie
offered the best bang for the buck for the audiences and
satisfactorily met their needs accordingly. If they were happy,
ball game over. Few people would use their head to think something
else.
(5)they
are not well-informed enough to figure out how to collect the
required information to dig the dirt. In addition, most people in
Taiwan and China are scared to challenge this “international
well-known director”, not to mention raise questions sharp enough
to cut his throat, because unlike many others in this business, this
director is an Oscar award winner!!!, speaks English!!! !!! and is
from America!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The
awards he won together with his tremendous credibility make a lot of
people feel inferior, therefore, whatever he says or whatever he does
has been viewed as gold standard in this business. Fans love him,
respect him, cherish him, admire him, worship him, protect him,
defend him and eventually spoil him. When in trouble, he will be
vehemently defended and carefully protected by his fans and his
cheerleaders no matter what he did. For example, after
he did extremely unethical things in making that obscene movie,
triggering a lot of backlash, his fans and cheerleaders immediately
came out either to write articles praising him or to do something
else to remind all of us that he is a nice man(don't forget, as a
father and a husband, Chen X Bian is a nice man too.) If these
propagandas don't work well, then they will do that over and over and
over and over again until the BS was sold. So I wouldn't be
surprised to see more articles on different magazines bragging about
how great he is as a filmmaker and how nice he is as a husband and
a father. Nobody would write any articles to tell everybody how
indecent he was when making that indecent movie, because that would be
“politically incorrect” to hurt the image of our “national
treasure”, huh? These hypocritical articles or something else to
praise him were simply served as sword and shield for them to help
attack or defend him in the hope to win sympathy or to fight back.
(6)they
might know what really happened but again, the director has been
their darling for many years. He is extremely popular and has been
severely spoiled by the media and his fans. Therefore, as long as
he makes good movies, their tolerance for indecent things that
he did would be going up, way up. In my opinion, his fans who were
blindly supporting him are just as shameless as those who blindly support
Chen X Bian. They both are a group of extremely biased people,
because their tolerance for bad things or bad people may vary. It
depends on who you are,not what you do. If the man they love
committed a crime, they tend to cover him up and defend him wildly
and blindly. If the man they hate did something wrong, they would
bash or slam him as harsh as possible.
(7)this
director has long been appearing to be the man we can trust.
Unfortunately, too many people in this world tend to
automatically put too much trust in some people who they believe are
the folks they can trust.
With this in their mind, some of the trusted people tend to take
advantage of this to severely abuse our trust to feather their own
nests. If you take a close look at all the bad things happened in
2008, you should have no difficulty understanding what I am talking
about. A lot of trusted people and trusted banks and enterprises
were not what we thought and strongly disappointed all of us.
There is no exception to this director. While making this
movie, this trusted and beloved filmmaker shamelessly behaved like a
predator and a pimp who competently pander to his “customers''
lowest tastes and desires in the hop of making profits, meeting his
perverted needs and reaping praise.
(8)the
leading actress was a woman from mainland China. Many people in
Taiwan, according to their “experience”, do believe that most
Chinese women would do what they could to get what they want. They
are aggressive, hungry and motivated. Therefore, most people tend
to believe that in order to keep the opportunity to be a “movie
star”, she, as a Cinderella in this business, voluntarily and
aggressively to perform these extremely salacious actions in order to
please her director.
As
an extremely popular and severely spoiled darling in Taiwan, he
certainly knew how to take advantage of his tremendous reputation and
credibility to viciously and immorally had many, many people believe
that all the pornographic actions the audiences saw on the screen and
even more salacious actions they couldn't see in the studio were what
the leading actress voluntarily performed. That's why when the
leading actress got punished for her salacious actions in that movie,
no one in Taiwan said anything to condemn the true guilty one. Only
a few in China wrote articles to bash this shameless asshole.
Because most of them did not know what really happened. This is
absolutely disgusting.
Q:why
do you think this is important?
A:
the director is from a top film-making country where he acquired
major awards in this field/business to make what he is today. He is
supposed to respect the rules and the laws more than many other
no-name directors when making films, because he knew what the rules
are and because he accumulated his reputation and his fortune from
such a civilized country.
I
firmly believe that if making a similar movie in the United States,
he would absolutely respect the rules and the laws. He would
absolutely treat the American actors and actresses with respect. He
would do what he is supposed to do to make films. But why, when
getting back to his motherland to make this movie, he disrespected
the rules and the laws, doing anything he likes and looting anything
he wants? Why didn't he make the game fair? If Tang Wei were
an actress with strong legal mind, knowing what
her rights were and refusing to perform these actions, then what
would he do to make this film? Making a movie like that, any
director should be very cautious. The director should do their own
due diligence to avoid having the film cross the line, but was that
the case in making that salacious film?
As
a filmmaker, he has to do what he is supposed to do. I believe When
directing “The Dreamers” in 2003, Bernardo Bertolucci didn't
request Michael Pitt, the leading actor, to perform sexual
intercourse to Eva Green, the leading actress, nor did Paul Verhoeven
when making “Black book” in 2006. I also believe when starring
“The Dreamers”, Eva Green knew exactly what she needed to
perform, so did Carice Van Houten, the leading actress of “Black
Book”. Was that the case in making “Lust, Caution”? Why
didn't he treat Tang and Leung as fair as he did to American actors?
Did he think actors in Hong Kong, Taiwan, or China are cheap?
Does he have concealed superiority complex in front of Chinese
actors?
Making
this movie, he played the most dominant role, manipulating everything
in order to have his actors perform all kinds of salacious actions he
wanted to see. But when the Chinese government made a decision to
punish his leading actress for her obscene actions in that movie, he
behaved like a castrated coward, keeping timidly quiet in order to
save his own ass.
Was that what a responsible director is supposed to do? He was
extremely courageous to do unethical things to his actors but why
didn't the true guilty one bravely show his courage again to tell the
Chinese government what really happened to save his leading actress
who has taken the blame?
Folks,
this is your beloved “international well-known director'. In my
opinion, he probably is the most cowardly and the dirtiest director I
have ever seen, if compared to many others who made similar movies.
There is no way the media should continue to cover him up. There is
no way he should be allowed to make movie that way. There is no way
he can fool all of the people all of the time. Believe me, as
mentioned earlier, he would have no guts to treat American actors and
actress like what he did to Tang and Leung( starring this movie, these
two people behaved like fools, in my opinion), but if he did, he
would be sued. A fraudulent practice and sexual harassment lawsuit
would destroy his fame, reputation, and credibility massively,
completely and permanently. Have you guys ever heard “the devil
is in the details” meaning that
small things in plans and schemes that are often overlooked can cause
serious problems later on.
As a director, he just can't do what it takes to get what he wants.
If I were Tang Wei, I would do what I could to bring him to justice
to get my image and my reputation back.
Q:but
he is an academy award winner, isn't he?
A:Oscar
winner? So what? I don't care whether he is Oscar winner or Nobel
laureate. I mean I don't care who he is. I do care what he did.
People in Taiwan have long been caring too much about who he is, not
what he can do or what he did. They made mistakes like that over
and over again and got hurt over and over again.
Remember?
about 9 years ago, with his tremendous academic reputation and
political clout, a man named Lee Yuan-tze, a Taiwan born and raised
Nobel prize winner in chemistry, chose to endorse then Presidential
candidate Chen X Bian. He claimed Chen would be Taiwan's hope. If
elected, Chen would be able to bring us happiness and hope, making
Taiwan a promising island. A lot of people including a lot of elite
intellectuals, shamelessly followed suits to root for the most
devilish looter of the century. Now what? Do people still trust
him? Are people still happy about his endorsement? Where is that
asshole? Did he apologize for what he did?
Now
it's time for people in Taiwan to stop blindly worshiping these
“idols” who were most likely educated, cultivated and have
achieved their celebrity status in the United States. Believe me,
if they were in the United States, they would absolutely behave as
humble as they could, because they all know that Americans would not
allow them to be bullshitting this and bullshitting that. But when
getting back to their motherland, these guys instantly became
superstars or godfathers, behaving totally different from when they
were in the States. Sure they did accomplish something in their own
professional fields. But that does not necessarily mean they can use
their fame and glory acquired specifically from their professions to
do anything they like and loot anything they want in a place where
they were born and raised and primarily educated.
Now
it's time for Taiwanese to wake up, stopping kissing these idols' ass
and building up their own confidence. What Taiwan needs right now
obviously is not award-winning idols but a group of truly enlightened
people in different fields who are broad-minded enough to consider a
lot of things which lie beyond the scope of their immediate
influence. Frankly speaking, these idols from the United States have
not directly made any contributions to the welfare of the people
living in Taiwan. Because of their achievements, they certainly
could be role models for many people and do have their own influence
on their professional fields. But blindly flattering or even
spoiling these idols would only show how shallow Taiwan is and how unfair it is for truly hard-working people. In
this island, there are still a lot more people in almost all walks of
life making a lot of contributions to keep everything going smoothly
day in and day out. They deserve a lot more credit than these
worshiped idols. They are our true heroes.
Q:you
seem to be disliking him a lot?
A:untrue.
To be honest with you, I used to like him a lot and had long been
his loyal fan until I noticed how he made that movie. No, he can't
make a movie that way. He can't treat his actors with such
disrespect. He can't do what it takes in order to get what he
wants. If every director followed what he did in making that
movie, then this business would be looking like a jungle where the
predators can chase, capture and kill their preys at will.
Besides, if having the leading actor and the leading actress expose
their sex organs and having them perform graphic sexual intercourse
actions could be praised as a breakthrough, then the breakthrough is way
too cheap.
Q:if
you were the director of that movie, what would you do to handle the
sex scenes?
A:
I would probably let the leading actress perform what Sharon Stone
did in the movies such as “Basic Instinct” and “Sliver”, that
is, nudities but no pussy or balls exposed; love-making scenes but
no graphic sexual intercourse actions.
