這首歌由美國曇花一現就消失的女歌手Charlene夏琳(1950.6--？)所唱，收錄在同名專輯＜Charlene＞之中，但並不賣座。夏琳也因而離開了演藝事業，在英國小鎮當個小店員。沒想到五年後，也就是1982年，＜I've Never Been to Me＞ 這首歌被某位DJ一時心血來潮拿來播放，卻引起了熱烈反應。MOTOWN趕忙找回夏琳，錄製了＜I've Never Been to Me＞這張專輯，大獲好評。但夏琳接下來的成績卻依然不怎麼理想，終於在1985年退出了MOTOWN，從此便消聲匿跡。但這首歌卻成了經典之作，國內也前後曾被黃鶯鶯以及S.H.E.翻唱過。
