I think the author, Stephenie Meyer, chose a human girl, Bella, and a male vampire, Edward, to be the leading characters to not only grab readers attention but also to tell us how brave girls can be when they are protecting their true love, albeit a forbidden love. In Twilight, Bella meets a perfect Prince Charming, who is extremely good-looking, rich, and strong enough to save her from any accident! Without a doubt, the lovely Prince Charming should be her Mr. Right in the end. However, there is one problem, her lovely Prince Charming turns out to be a vampire. To make things worse, lovely Prince Charming has a special thirst for Bella’s blood! Besides this blood-thirstiness, there are other endless troubles with their relationship, for instance, Edward has to protect Bella from the constant threat of other vampires’ attacks! Nevertheless, even though getting together with this handsome vampire is the riskiest decision Bella has ever made, she is never the least bit afraid. There is one event which illustrates her determination, bravery, and most of all, the love for Edward. After putting Bella’s life into danger several times, Edward starts to think about giving up this relationship and returning Bella to a safe and peaceful life. To this idea, Bella replies “ How dare you give up!” Clearly, Bella takes their relationship much more important than her own safety! Throughout the whole story, the author tells us: Although girls like Bella always seem fragile under their strong boyfriends’ protection, when here comes difficulty in the relationships, the great courage in girls’ hearts has the potential to make them more determined and braver than we imagine! After all, love really has an amazing power!
Having talked about girls’ impressive courage, we can turn to another interesting question. That is, if the leading characters are changed into a female vampire and a human boy, what would the story be like?” From my viewpoint the story would be less complicated than the original one. As I have alreadly written, most of the time in a love relationship, boys try to be mature and dependable, protecting their girlfriends at any cost as their seriouse responsibilities . And girls, despite having the bravery to die for their love, tend to enjoy being taken care of by their lovers. In fact, most girls are just like innocent sheep in their boyfriends’ arms.Even if they might actually be stronger than their boyfriends. As a result, I believe that if the female vampire fell in love with a human boy, the boy might ask her to change him into a vampire immediately. Because what he wants is not the comfort and safety of his girlfriend's protection ( I guess it would be shameful for him.),but, instead, the responsiblity and challenge of being her protector. Moreover, I don’t think the female vampire would reject the boy when asked that. After all, powerful as she is, she is still a female, who naturally prefers to be taken care of and protected by her lovers . In the end, there undoubtedly would be a happy ending, with the Prince marring the Princess eventually and living together happily ever after! However, doesn’t it sound a little boring and predictable? |
