3. 莫難于軍爭,軍爭之難者,以迂為直,以患為利。
然而更難處在於軍爭,即如何運用謀略爭取有利的戰局,常見的軍爭難題包括如何把迂迴的路線轉化為直線,如何將劣勢轉變成有利的局面。
Indeed nothing is more difficult than the maneuver of tactics (i.e., campaigning for victory). The difficulty of tactical maneuvering includes how to convert devious routes into straight paths, and disadvantages into advantages.
4. 故迂其途,而誘之以利。後人發,先人至,此知迂直之計者也。
如果採取迂迴之路,可以利誘敵人使其行動受阻。如此雖然比對手晚出發,卻可以比敵人先到達目的地,這只有深知迂直戰術之高人能做到。
Hence if a long winding route is chosen, one can throw baits to entice the enemy thus to hamper his action. You may start late but can still make it to the destination before your rival, in which only the tactics expert is able to accomplish such a mission.
