1. 天地不仁？以萬物為芻狗！
天地如果沒有仁愛公義，那麼萬物都會被當作祭祀用的草狗犧牲，用完了就丟棄！
If heaven and earth have no love or righteousness, then all things will be treated as a hay-dog sacrifice, abandoned once used.

2. 聖人不仁？以百姓為芻狗！
聖人如果沒有仁愛公義，那麼百姓也會被當作祭祀用的草狗犧牲一樣，用完了就丟棄！
If the sage has no love or righteousness, then all people will be treated as a hay-dog sacrifice as well, abandoned once used.

3. 天地之間，其猶橐蘥乎！
天地之間的宇宙，像是一個巨大無窮的煉鑄風爐(人類相對而言，非常渺小)！
The universe between heaven and earth looks like an infinite blowing foundry (human beings are relatively very tiny in it)!

4. 虛而不屈，動而俞出。
道看起來空虛平静，然而他的資源卻毫無窮盡，他越動，產生的能量就越多。（隱喻：人類若依仁愛公義而行，所產生的力量就會大起來。）
The Word of Heaven seems empty and silent, and indeed it is boundless, the more the Word acts, the more the power is created. (This implies that more actions of love and righteousness we have, more power is produced.)

5. 多言數窮，不如守中。
如果沒有行動光靠喋喋不休的言論，那麼言論越多就會越扭曲真理，唯有堅守仁愛公義，才能在天道之中活出意義。
Without actions, excessive chattering can only result in a deep distortion of truth, therefore the best way is to keep love and righteousness, so our life may be meaningful under the Word of Heaven.
