Hi, my friend,

Do you like watching Disney Cartoons? To be honest, watching a nice cartoon is a good way to practice my imagination and provides me lots of inspirations. Actually, I finished watching Brother Bear 2 several days ago, but some special scenes keep floating on my mind. I guess that is because the message which is delivered through the film-- trusting others, self-sacrifice, a father-daughter bond, the endurance of love, and the magic great spirits.

Brother Bear 2 which touches me so deeply is a great cartoon about love and friendship among two bears and a girl. Kenai is living in the forest – as a bear – with his brother, Koda. They’re the best friends, and Kenai is always there to protect Koda no matter what might happen. The beginning of the movie starts with the end of winter; snow is still on the ground, all of the animals are out, and snow has covered the forest. Koda and Kenai have fun sliding down the snow-covered mountains. Melissa Etheridge sings the opening theme of the movie, “Welcome to this Day”. This is an inspiring song with awesome lyrics which is very cheering and encouraging.

WELCOME TO THIS DAY
Waking up in the night of shinny new day
Giving thanks to the moon for guiding my way
There is no better gift to the soul than each breath that my body can hold
So great sprits hear my voice today

Welcome magic welcome sweet sunrise
Welcome my sweet sunrise
Love is no secret look all around you
Welcome to this day
Love is no secret look all around you
Welcome to this day

Life is simple and clear when you make the right choice
It is truth that you hear when you find your own voice
Oh, my brothers and sisters, believe
You are just what you are meant to be
Oh, great spirits
Hear my voice today

Welcome magic welcome sweet sunrise
Welcome my sweet sunrise
Love is no secret look all around you
Welcome to this day
Love is no secret look all around you
Welcome to this day

Koda and Kenai sleep side by side as the day begins to come to an end. In Kenai’s dream, he recalls the good old days with Nita who used to be his best childhood friend. Kenai remembers the scene of playing with Nita, the ice broke and he saved Nita from drowning. When the two were in a cave at night, he gave Nita his amulet (charm) necklace which delivered his affection toward her. Nita responded to this by drawing a cave picture of them together pledging that “they will always be best friends".

Time flies quickly, and Nita has turned into an older charming girl and gets ready to be married. However, she still has strong feelings for Kenai who has been turned into a bear. As her father asks the spirits for their acceptance of the marriage, the clouds form and break the mountain in half to separate Nita from her husband-to-be.

She consults a shaman to find out what might be the problem. The shaman gives the word that Nita must reunite with Kenai and destroy that amulet in the very spot where Kenai gave it to her. To help her out, the shaman gives Nita the power to speak to the animals.

With the help from the shaman, Nita goes on her journey to find Kenai and destroy the amulet. Their friendship is developed step by step when they are forced to face lots of challenges and choose to deal with all of them together without giving up in the middle. There are some great lines between Nita and Kenai about the magic power of friendship by giving friends some affirmative recognitions and reaching out the warm arms and helpful hands. Because of trusting Kenai, Nita tries to overcome her fear of water.

Kenai: This is the only way. Let me help you.
Nita: I changed my mind.
Kenai: Nope, it’s too late for that. We’re going across whatever happens, don’t let go.
Nita: Ok.
Nita: I did it. I did it. Thank you, Kenai. Thank you, Kenai.

After fighting against the challenges together, the friendship between Kenai and Nita grows closer and closer, and here comes another Melissa Etheridge’s song, "Feels Like Home" The song is so great beyond my expectation and I can feel the emotions being poured out between the two friends. It takes me some time to write down the lyrics and type the lyrics here to share with you. But I just love the feeling of sharing with you something nice.

FEELS LIKE HOME
Funny how it turns out that everything can change
What I feel right now is not the same as yesterday
There’s more than I imagined deep inside my heart
Emotions that I never know and this is just the start
So many things I’ve been missing, not watching
But that was all in the past

Now I realize that there's so much more to learn
I'm ready for the world
Not scared of letting go
now I realize there's so much more to feel
and my heart knows it's real
the part of me so long forgotten is calling
and this feels like home, home home feels just like home.

Right from the start, been friends forever
Somehow we’re meant to be together
I feel like you’ve shown me how to find my way home, find my way home

Now I realize that there's so much more to learn
I'm ready for the world
Not scared of letting go
now I realize there's so much more to feel
and my heart knows it's real
the part of me so long forgotten is calling
and this feels like home, home home, feels just like home.

In Koda’s mind, he thinks Kenai is going to turn back into a human and leave him for good. He decides to run away from Kenai and Nita first. However, Koda meets something unexpected, he’s rescued by Nita, and he realizes she’s not here to steal Kenai away from him. There are some awesome lines between these two faithful and reliable friends.

Kenai: Koda, what would I have done if anything happened to you?
Koda: You’re gonna leave me. You said you missed being on of them( human beings) You are going back with her, aren’t you?
Kenai: You are my brother. I’ll never leave you. Not ever.

Afterward, Kenai is depressed after reuniting with Nita and then losing her again.
Here comes the warm-hearted conversation between Koda and Kenai.

Koda: Kenai, did you give Nita the amulet because you loved her?
Kenai: It was a long time ago.
Koda: But she’s still with you here in your heart. I can tell.
Kenai: Koda, it doesn’t matter.
Koda: Well, if you do love her, shouldn’t you tell her?
Kenai: It is a little more complicated than that. Anyway, it’s over. Hey, I promise you we’d be the first two bears to Crowberry Ridge. Pinky swear, remember? How about first thing in the morning we rustle up some more berries? Sound good?

Koda worries about his big brother and asks his mother in the spirit-world to turn Kenai back into a man so he can be with Nita. There are some lines which touch me somehow.

Koda: Mom, Kenai is so sad. It’s all because of me. I’ll be ok on my own. Tell the spirits to change Kenai back. So he can be happy.

The next morning, Rutt and Tuke tell Kenai that Koda had gone to Nita’s village to bring her back. Kenai is worried if Koda steps foot in the village, he might be killed by the hunters. Kenai goes to the village as fast as possible to rescue his brother, Koda. Atka knocks him off a cliff into shallow water in front of Nita. She hurries to him when the spirits come down to them. Koda tells Kenai that he asked the spirits to change him back into a man. Kenai says that he can't, but Nita replies that she can. Here come the lines which prevail “ Love and Friendship.”

Koda: I asked the spirits to turn you back into a man.
Kenai: What?
Koda: so you could be with Nita.
Kenai: No, Koda.
Koda: It’s ok. I just want you to be happy again.
Kenai: Nita, I can’t.
Nita: But I can.

I couldn’t help but admire the courage that Koda makes all sacrifices to see his brother, Kenai, become happy again. There is no doubt that it takes the unbeatable courage to express your love and affection to the one you care for and love in various ways.

There are some touching lines between Father and Daughter before the wedding ceremony.

Father: Once again, we’re ready. Are you, my daughter?
Nita: Yes, Father.
Father: I would expect a bride to be smiling on here wedding day. Is there something wrong?
Nita: Daddy, I’m so confused. I thought that when I burned the amulet, the bond would be broken, but….. in my heart, I ….I am sorry, Daddy. I can’t marry Atka.

Wow, it is so cool to be faithful to one’s own inner voice. Nita is brave enough to face her true affection toward Kenai and confesses her true feeling to her father before her wedding ceremony.

Nita and her father's relationship is very close. At story's end, he's willing to let his daughter change into a bear rather than see her unhappy. There is a sincere affection—Father’s Love toward his lovely daughter. Here come some lines which have shown the deep affection about Father’s Love.

Father: Is this what you want? Will this make you happy? You are my daughter and I’ll love you no matter what you choose.

Nita chooses to become a bear and hang together with Kenai, and she gets the recognition and the best wishes from her father as well. The spirits change the young Nita into a bear as a perfect ending accompanies the lovely song of “ It Will Be Me.”
It Will Be Me
If you hear the voice, in the middle of the night
Saying it’ll be all right
It will be me
If you feel a hand guiding you along when the path seems wrong
It will be me

There is no mountain that I can't climb
For you I'd swim through the rivers of time
As you go your way and I go mine
A light will shine
It will be me

There is a perfect line which can express the main theme of the film “Once you love someone, they stay within your heart forever.” In the end, it’s Nita who has to make a major decision in her life and realize who she wants to be with and who might be the one stays in her heart forever.

Right now, right here, I want to end up this mail by sharing the lyrics of “Great Spirits” with you.
Great Spirits
When the earth was young and the air was sweet
And the mountains kissed the sky
In the great beyond, with its many paths
Man and nature lived side by side
In this wilderness of danger and beauty
Lived three brothers, bonded by love
Their hearts full of joy they ask now for guidance
Reaching out to the skies up above
Great Spirits of all who lived before
Take our hands and lead us
Fill our hearts and souls with all you know
Show us that in your eyes we are all the same
Brothers to each other
In this world we remain truly brothers are the same
Give us wisdom to pass to each other
Give us strength so we understand
That the things we do the choices we make
Give direction to all life's plans
To look in wonder at all we've been given
In a world that's not always as it seems
Every corner we turn only leads to another
A journey ends, but another begins
Brothers all the same

Can you believe that I have been typing my reflection toward the film whole day long? And now, I feel tired and want to say goodbye and wish you a good day on this Marvelous Monday.

Helen with a tiring smile
