This September Has Been a Bitch: Credit card late payment
2008/10/08 01:39:53瀏覽566|回應2|推薦4

Yes, I MISSED my due days in September as well. Its not like I have multiple cards that I could not keep track of. I only have 2. For AE, I missed 2 days. And for Visa, I missed out the WHOLE month until I received my October's statement.

MY GOSH. Where the hell have I been the whole month to miss the credit card due days?! Sounds very ironic. But I spent much of the time at work. Every weekend at work to be exactly.

I know I can have a spending problem if I overwork myself. But my fear-driven ambition had me put in lots of OT (overtime) back in August, trying to pay off my dental bills.

The economy in Michigan HAS BEEN A MESS since 2000. Foreign cars has been kicking the Big 3's ass SO HARD that every now and then there are hundreds of workers being laid off. Plus all the NEGATIVE news on TV. The gas, the grocery, the war, the fight between the elephant and the donkey. First it was all very alarming. Now its just VERY annoying.

And I did pay off most of the dental bill by sending in $500 every month. But I somehow spent, or maybe overspent on myself. I said I really do need some R&R to cope every single depressing day. I wish I could say I smoke, drink or do drugs. I used to eat. Now the only thing I can do is spending.

Lets see. All the new cream and serum from Dr. Denese. Hair shampoo and conditioner from Ojan. Cleanser from Philosophy. 2 brand new trench coats from London Fog. 2 more lether jackets from Bradley Buyou. One winter down coat from Dialogue. One pair of water resistant boots from Ryka. And some stupid 10 minute workout DVD set that I never used since I bought it.

Did I really save any money by doing OT? Nah, it all went to paying bills from shopping at QVC and the late payments from 2 credit cards.

I can imagine how its all going to affect my FICO score. But I really do not want to know it yet. Guess I'll know when I have to pay more for my car insurance next year.

Karma is a BITCH.

SIGH.

credit report...
2008/10/11 05:19
I do not know how long something like this may affect your FICO score. However, I do know that your credit company most likely will not report it to the credit bureaus, and you are perfectly okay (it will have no effect on your FICO score). In fact, unless this happens over and over, most credit card companies will not report it as long as the late payment is received within 60 days. Even if your credit company has reported it, you can write a letter to the credit bureaus to explain the situation; then you will likely be fine.

I am not sure if your credit card company will tell you whether they have reported your late payment to the credit bureaus, but you can certainly find out by getting a copy of your credit report from one (or all) of the three main credit bureaus: Experian, Equifax and Trans Union (there is a catch with those free credit report agencies. I suggest that you go to each individual credit bureau website and ask for a copy, they are obligated to give one free report to you per year).

I am an engineer by trade, so you need to take my answer here with a grain of salt…… (哈哈!)

late fees...
2008/10/10 10:34

As usual, great article!

As far as I know the credit card company will waive the late fees if you are only late once in a while (once every 6 months?)... I have been told that if the agent won't bulge, just hang up and call again for another agent.

Of course, if you are late because you did not receive the monthly statement, you are definitely not supposed to pay any late fees (since it's entirely their fault).

Thank you for your good words, Kid. I paid about $40 for late fees all together. It was totally my fault that I did not check my mails as often. Honestly I really worry that my FICO score got screwed up because of this. And that I'll have to pay more for all the rest of every little bullsh*t I'm required to pay. Do you know how long the bad credit record like this will affect the FICO?
