Working with Dr. Okka is pain in the ass. I truly believe that he is a jerk who happens to be a doctor. Last time when I approached him about one of the patients, who was on insulin drip for 2-3days having blood sugar under 250, he was a total jerk. "Good morning, Dr. Okka. This patient's blood sugar is always under 250, do you think he can be off drip and on sliding scale instead?" "You tell me why he needs to be off?" wow, good morning to YOU too, A*SHOLE. "....his blood sugar is good because he is ON the drip....we WILL continue the drip..." okey-dokey, double-checking is part of my job. Thats all. Then the same issue was clarified with the patient's endocrinologist, Dr. Bradee. "No, the patient IS responding well to the drip. Continue with the drip until his sugar is in control." Well, I feel more assured of the drip since there are 2 doctors who agree on it. The second day when Dr. Okka came for round. "Why is the patient still on drip?" gee-wee-louise, why isn't he? I asked you about it yesterday, dumbass. "....you need to find out why the drip is NOT working..." wait a second, I thought that is YOUR job to find out what is NOT working, doctor. "....and why is the patient's sugar still high when he is on drip...." well, then you need to check with Dr. Bradee, but not yelling and acting like a jerk, Okka. This patient was checked blood sugar every 2 hour, sometimes he finished the meal right before accucheck. Of course the meals raised up the sugar, thus the drip. He was high during the day and bottomed out to 50's during the night. He needs both pills and a sliding scale. And a night snack to stop the sugar from dropping during the night. The second time when I encoutered with Dr. Okka, he was totally out of it. "...WHY is the patient's UA not done? The order is placed for 2days." what UA? I am just as puzzled. The night shift did not tell me we need a UA. "Dr. Okka, I'm sorry, But I did not know about it...." "...#$%^&**..." now I feel really mad when he continues bitching and not listening. "Wait a second, I just came to work, Dr. Okka. Give me a chance to work on it...." I looked at the time, for christ sake, its only 10AM. What is wrong with this dude?! "Get the charge nurse...." might as well, I thought. I called the manager right away. I have no time for some a*shole bitching at me for what was not done the previous shifts when im working my ass off at the same time. This is called nursing shortage. Welcome to my world, Dr. Okka. I wonder if Okka will understand what its like to be overwhelmed and bombarded by all the work to continue the care for the patients and their family when we are here 24/7, 365. "Yes, he gets PMSey sometimes." my manager assures me this way. I thought so. |
