Short Essay Writing Practices Series were written for my niece, who needed to attend the exam for entering colleges in Taiwan. (四) Earthquakes The earthquake is one of the most terrible natural disasters in the world. Anyone who has ever been through a violent earthquake must know how frightening it can be. When earthquakes happen, they often bring serious casualties. For example, 921 Earthquake, which took place in Taiwan in 1999 caused a huge property damage and a great loss of people's life. In May 2008, a severe earthquake struck Eastern Sichuan, China. It took away more than eighty thousands Chinese people's life and tore apart lots of happy families. The loss of property and the impact on China's economy is hard to measure . Why are earthquakes so terrible? Because they're so unpredicable that we don't know for sure when they may come. And when earthquakes occur, we're often too careless to prepare ourselves to fight against them. To avoid the tragedies brought by earthquakes, here are some important tips. First of all, whenever the earthquakes happen, we should try to go to an open place as soon as we can. Second, if we need to go down in a tall building, it would be safer to take stairs instead of taking elevators. Last but not least, no matter what happen, we should always stay calm to take proper measure. If we can take all these precautions, we will reduce loss of the casualties to a minimum. And most of all, we may survive the disasters . |
