週間必須開車到公司露面的日子，我通常會打開 Bloomberg radio，邊開車邊聽財經產業消息。幾個主持人吐囑幽默，音色悅耳；請的來賓各陳一家之言，應答有致。我邊開車邊聽，除了打發時間，還體會到一個簡單的方法，或有助於強化認知能力。
有些地道的英文說法，我雖聽得懂，但不會主動使用 - 就是說，它們不屬於我的詞庫。這種語彙貧乏症，其實是表達能力無法更上層樓的病根。何況我的記憶力欠佳，聽多了也記不牢。
開車聽 radio, 倒是給我靈感：何不「每日一詞」呢？若聽到 “地道但我不會主動使用" 的英文說法，我就反覆念誦；勤能補拙，也記住了。這樣，開一趟車，就可能學了一個新詞。然後再設法找機會使用，將其轉化為自己的詞庫。
這些日子添加的語彙，有這些：
- Poised to: 蓄勢待發。poised to grow; poised to strike. 比 positioned (卡位) 有動感。
- In the slow lane 牛步；進展遲緩。反義是 in the fast lane 嗎? 未必。
- Financial literacy: 勝過 financial knowledge.
- Keep in sight: 盯著。具象、生活化、但充滿目的。Lets keep our goal in sight.
- At ones fingertips: 類似「易如反掌、唾手可得」。He has all the operational numbers at his fingertips.
- Getting there but not there: 意至而形未達。Inflation needs to further slow down; we are getting there but not there.
- Emerge from a slump. 從谷底翻身。Japans economy is about to emerge from a 20-year slump.
