Don’t call me 作家 (Writer), Please! Every time when I start blogging on line, my eye sight touch the Wording (作家). I thank the editor of UDN’s kindness. The 1st time the word (作家) shoot me to the cloud of the sky and I felt high. Then I asked myself: “Am I?” No, I am not, period. Based on the definition of Webster, "biographer, columnist, contributor, correspondent, critic, cub, dramatist, editor, essayist, freelancer, ghostwriter, hack, ink slinger, journalist, newspaperman, novelist, pen pusher, pencil pusher, playwright, poet, reporter, screenwriter, scribbler, scribe, scripter, stenographer, stringer, wordsmith" Well, I was writing not professionally and it is for my “pastime” not for pay. Ladies and Gentlemen, I seriously announce that I am not writer in this sense. The number 2 definition, I admit I have been writing from time to time. However, I also have to confess that I am not very good in application of the tool. Things like spelling grammar and imagination of using that tool are still strange to me. Let alone the literature of applying it in a way to attract lots of reader. I IMHO consider that作家 should be and must be reserved for those who write and get paid. Since the beginning of the blogger in 1999 in the Internet, lots of people begin blogging. Some of them have been very good like professor scholar and their view and thought are worth of publication. Yet the market is not big enough to render their recognition. Consider the time and energy they have spent on the writing, you may wonder whether they are worth of it. The thrill and the thinking of someone on the other end read what you wrote and share your opinion, you say to yourself: “ This is fun and you are not alone in this universe.” I am very much grateful for the blogging has given to me. The only thing I am not feeling comfortable is the title of 作家. I don’t want to steal the spot night of the famous writers who earned their name by numerous masterpieces. It takes lot of talent and works which requires data and information collection and photographic memory. I salute them with awe and have no intention to take their place. I don’t mind people call me blogger but definitely not a 作家, Please! |
