中華古訓:「殺頭的生意有人做、賠錢的生意沒人做」
I am hanging here at time when the world markets are tumbling.
I am sticking to the policy of 中華古訓:「殺頭的生意有人做、
賠錢的生意沒人做」. There has been time that I was able to make
a million in a few years then loss a couple of quarter in a year. But
never have I forget the policy of this 中華古訓.
I have been running this motel for over 18 years. I have nothing to brag about it.
I am selling our room at rate definitely in an attempt to make profit. I have made
cost analysis for the lowest rate I can afford to offer without losing money.
I would rather keep all the room vacant if the guest does not pay the rate at my
break even point. That is for the winter when there is no demand in the market
you just sell the room for paying the bill.
Frankly Business man in a way is a speculator. When the opportunity raise itself
you jack up your price in order to meet the demand. Well, people tend to criticize
me at that time like this "Ripping off the people". Yet when you have the chance to
make large profit why not take the advantage of it. Besides, there are 4 seasons in
a year and our motel is seated in a resort national park. You got only half year to
enjoy a healthy income why not make the best of it. I guess most of the motel business
in Mariposa conduct the business the same way. In short, making money in Summer
and keep some money left over to tide over the winter freezing season. In addition,
I post a sign saying" Please inspect the room before you pay. You like it, you take it
You don't, Highway 140!" That is my policy, I don't cheat and what you see is what
you get.
My friend always say :" *** you are rich***. In a sense I am "rich" because I do not have
to pay huge mortgage. I have cash enough in worst scenario to tide over in a world
recession for at least 2 years. Unfortunately I am not that "rich" like Warren Buffet.
I am happy and self content with what I am and what I have in my life.
