Les Paul & Mary Ford, a husband-and-wife singing group, sang and recorded subject song in 1952. Les' brilliant guitar playing and Mary's soft, mellifluous voice made this brisk waltz a classic of romance. After so many years still I can remember some of the lyrics: "My baby's coming home, and I will be there to meet him; with kisses I will greet him, when we're all alone. My baby's coming home, and he said he won't deceive me; he promised not to leave me, never more to roam." It sounded romantic and a little bit demure, how fascinating the song is. Les Paul later concentrated on the instrumental improvement and playing technics of guitar, and he had been extolled "the father of electronic guitar".
But "my baby" shall not necessarily denote a lover only. Children are the babies of their parents forever. My daughter along with her husband, my son-in-law, will come home tomorrow. Now "my baby's coming home" is to me the happiest father of the world!
