| Yesterday a Taiwan fishing boat was assaulted by a Philipino armed vessel within a seemingly legal area. The Philipinos fired thirty-odd bullets with machine gun, cuasing relatively remarkable casualties and damages. Our Ministry of foreign Affairs expressed "severe concerns" to the incident. Report said Mainland China immediately expressed "severe condemnation" toward the crime committed by the Philipines.
As usual, the Philipines won't apologize to the victims, won't compensate the damages caused and won't presecute the murderers. As usual, Taiwan can do little towards the incident. As usual, people in Taiwan will forgive the government's incompetence because they are told that how adverse situation Taiwan facing in international affairs, especially in the disputes with its neighbors. The fundamental reason for the inactivity of Taiwan government is due to its willingness, with alacrity, to be one of the underlings,along with South Korea, Japan, the Philipines, in the anti-China containment directed by the U.S.. If Taiwan dares to challenge another co-underling, actually it is able to do so, its master would come out and deter it from doing anything that will jeopadize their "common goal". The misery of the island? Yes, but Taiwan deserves it. All President Ma can do now is asking Mainland China, on the sly of course, to teach Philipinos a lesson. Otherwise, he has to tacitly approve the fact that more and more fishing boats of Taiwan will hoist the national flag of Peiple's Republic of China when they sail out fishing again. |
