The Principle of Equality?

In response to the inquiry of if letting CCTV-international or TVBS-HKG into Taiwan as to widen the range of international views for the islanders, Ms. Lung Yintai, the minister of Cultural Affairs, said that China should also allow Taiwan's programs telecast in the mainland before seriously considering the question.

Has the same prerequisite applied to the U.S. for CNN in Taiwan, UK for BBC or JAP for NHK?  I guess not.  The main purpose to open the market for CCTV and TVBS is to let the islanders gain broader, more in-depth knowledge and analysis on  international affairs broadcast in Mandarin, filling the void of local TV left because of lacking professional expertise and deep pockets.  If the audience still prefer trivial pieces of news to more informative ones, just let the silliness keep on bringing them cheers.  (Ironically, report says today that in the degree of media freedom, Taiwan is the number one in the world.  So what is it afraid of?)

Talking about equality, what do we boast of for telecasting in Mainland China?  Our news stations?  Nay.  Those talk shows specializing in gossips and conspicuous consumptions?  It's not a bad idea, for they may have some influence on changing the mainland into a decadent society.  In so doing, Mainland China might not be interested in pursuing unification with Taiwan any more.
