On September 3rd, President Xi delivered the speech of "The new starting point of China's development and the new blueprint for global economic growth" in G20 Summit at Hangzhou, while Taiwan's President Cai evaded the protest from the outburst of pent-up fury by as many as 145 thousand veterans, civil servants, and teachers gathering in front of presidential hall at Taipei. 

The sharp contrast simply signifies the difference between both sides of the strait.  China's Mainland is now playing a leading role in helping boost world growth by enlarging the pie she's made.  But in Taiwan people are desparately scrambling for their shares from a smaller and smaller pie which has been shrinking in every secter because DPP refuses to take the advantage of cooperating with Mainland. 

China's Mainland will keep on growing no matter what, so will Taiwan keep on declining if it still wants to isolate itself.  Perhaps people in Taiwan don't care about the shrinking pie, as long as Taidu, that "pie in the sky", is what they are dreaming of.

P.S. Reading between the lines from Xi's speech, you can see the magnificient outlook China is planning for.  You can also imagine that without joing the plan, Taiwan's future will be starkly bleak for sure.
