What? Chairman Su wants to pay an audience with that 石原慎太郎?

Report says that DDP Chairman Su intends to visit Japan and may pay an audience with that extreme rightist, the latter-day Japanese mailitary imperialist who engendered the recent confrontation on Diaoyutai among Mainland China, Taiwan and Japan.  Undoubtedly, the disputed issue of the islets will be one of topics between them if they do meet with each other.  I bet Su will definitely express an ambiguous stance towards the sovereignty and only focus on the right of fishing for Taiwan instead, or even evade talking about the issue.  Don't blame Su; he is not the only one.

I remember several years ago when 石原, then mayor of Toyko, visited Taiwan, Mayor Ma of Taipei, now the president, had to pay an "audience" to him at the hotel he was staying, intead of meeting him at Taipei city hall.  Again don't blame Ma, he is not the another sycophant only.  Decades ago when Taiwan decided to shoot a film celebrating "Battle of Kinmen", that politician's brother 石原裕次郎, a movie star, was invited to act as a Japanese reporter killed in the battle.  In the opening ceremony the ROC Admiral of the Fleet was standing behind that "idol", who had been fervently worshipped by Taiwanese fans, and clapping with a fawning smile.  I still remember one of my high school teachers gnashed his teeth in fury when he mentioned that ugly scene shown on the newpapers.

Why people in Taiwan, from the very top to the bottom, have to curry favor to Japan, a de facto vassal to the U.S.?  If Japan is vassal to the U.S., what Taiwan will be? A puppet state?  Where the dignity you've boasted of has gone?  Why don't you be a proud brother to Mainland China instead of being a pliant son to Japan and an obedient grandson to the U.S.?  I dare say here, someday, ere long, when China has a larger economic scale than the U.S., and an equal military power, the islanders will embrace the mainland without hesitation and forget all of the dignity now they have when facing China.
