Chinese Taipei female athlete Yang Shu-chun lost in the quarter-final of tae kwon do, and was unable to gain any Olympic medal for Taiwan. The media here used “broken heart” and “shattered dream” to describe the public mood towards Yang’s failure; I am sorry for her, too. To look on the bright side, fortunately Yang didn’t advance to the final to have a match-up with the gold-medalist Wu Jingyu. Wu, China’s defending champion, was so quick, so adroit, and so aggressive that made her continuous kicks like those we’d seen in kung-fu movies. She won all four rounds with an edge of 10.25 points in average, that had been a overwhelming advantage over her rivals. I guess Yang couldn’t do any better than any other players who’ve tried to challege Wu’s dominance. In short, Yang is dwarfed, so Yang’s defeat en route to championship could have been a face-saving result to the people in Taiwan. By the way, the media here bestowed “Taiwan’s daughter” upon Yang, and “Pretty Babe” as well. But I think Wu is equally pretty, if not prettier. |
